Lotus Elise....Type R

July '01 Car & Driver has an article about the Elise you can import to the U.S.

The Rover engine doesn't conform to US Standards so the importer (Sun International) swaps the engine with a Integra Type R engine. The rev limiter is upped to 9100rpm and the VTEC engagement is lowered. This moves the 1719 pound Elise from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and the 1/4 in 13.4@104mph. It also hits .94g on the skidpad so you see it's not just a straight line car. What will it cost you...$55k well spent dollars.

The Elise is very cool, but the Z06 is a great car....plus the 2002 gets 405hp/400lbs torque- I have driven the 01 several times and worth every penny of $49k (much hotter than the 99 6spd I had).

There's also an article on Lingenfelter's 2 new Z06 Vette's he has.

One he upped to 7.0 liters. The return of the 427 Vette. 500hp and 530 lb/ft of torque.
0-60 : 3.4 sec.
0-100 : 7.8 sec.
0-130 : 12.7 sec.
0-150 : 18.0 sec.
1/4 : 11.7@124mph

The second he just added twin turbos. 550hp and 550 lb/ft of torque.
0-60 : 3.9 sec.
0-100 : 7.4 sec.
0-130 : 11.0 sec.
0-150 : 14.9 sec.
1/4 : 11.5@133mph
The fastest run came from skipping 2nd gear because the turbos were spooled up and the tires spun all the way through 2nd.

I'm pretty sure you still can't drive it on the road. The Elise is for track use only even with the B18C5 engine. Lotus might make the new Elise available in the US for about $35K though. We'll see.

Thats amazing isn't it, John Lingenfelter is totally cool....you pay mucho $$$ for his serious mods- but from what I hear, they are well worth it in spades.

I love what he did with the Viper- just decided to mod one, and ended up with a fire breathing beast, that took down Roy Tepestra's King Snake (TNT), who has been hopping up Vipers for years with John Hennessey and now on his own- barely got beat, but did.
