Lost Keys Emergency (I think)

Last night after my roommate and I did groceries I went home and started up the stiars to unload them from my car. I opened my door to my apartment (using my keys) and went inside. I left afew things outside of the apartment and the door halfway open. Now when my roommate got home I had to go get my keys so I could open the trunk and he could help me with the rest of the stuff. My keys were nowhere to be found.

I'm thinking I left them hanging on the door in the lock and someone who was walking buy (though doubtful b/c Ilive on the 3rd floor) just took them.

Now I have no way to keep my apartment nor my car safe. I've turn the apartment upside down and even looked in the trash in case my keys fell into one of the grocery bags and was tossed in the can when I was unpacking the groceries.

I guess my question is, can I get a whole new set of keys and a whole new starter key thingy? How much would this cost?

I know it's a big pain in the ass but I just want to be sure. This afternoon I think I'm going to go buy new locks for the apartment door.

Just out of curiosity, have you called building management to see if anyone turned the keys in?

I'd call them and see if anyone has turned them in...

Changing the locks on your apartment is probably against your lease terms. I'd check to make sure...

As for the car... I'm sure it can be changed. Albeit, not cheaply...

Good luck!!!

I think it's around 300$ to change out everything. I wouldn't trust just getting new key's made, i'd want a whole new ignition unit.

yeah, I'd be getting a whole new ignition unit. the keys themselves are pretty expensive too b/vc they have that immobilizer chip in them.

Look in the fridge. Keep calm and give it a bit of time. Things have a way of showing up. Another place is the couch or under it. Small stuff always slide in there. Diry laundry in case you threw your clothes for wash.

Good luck.

Did you check your pants pocket? Maybe you put it in your pocket, went in and changed clothes...I do that sometimes.

vinh

we both always have shit happen to us!!!

You should not waste your time with a new ignition system. just upgrade to a aftermarket alarm system!

as for the apartment, just report that you lost your keys and ask if they can change out the locks.

what good is an aftermarket alarm only if you need it to disable the alarm. i think my old aftermarket alarm still allowed me to unlock the car door with my key...but i could be wrong. clifford makes a nice alarm too...would like to put one onto the cls.

if you unlock the door with the key and don't use the alarm keychain then it will still go off. that's how most aftermarket alarms go.
