Thumbs down Lost to a 94-95 Accord

i was coming home from work at about 9:00PM traveling north bound on Route 9 in sayreville,NJ heading into south amboy, when a 94-95 Accord Sedan flew by me. i couldnt tell if it was a LX or EX . it was stock height and a nice exhuast coming out at an angle. so i downshifted into 4th and line up with him at about 65-70 .then we both took off in 4th (he had to have been 5MT) and he took the lead by barely anything and it remained that way throughout 4th which was an eternity for our cars. nearing 100 we both started to slow because he had to take turn off onto RT 35 in south amboy. the outcome was my front bumper was by his rear passengers doors the whole time, which counts obviously as a loss. this race pretty much came down to weight, because the 5th accords are alot lighter than 1st gen CL's. it was such a frustrating lost. its weird that i beat a 6th gen accord coupe but lost to this car. thats why i think weight played a huge role.

ive done that before at around 70 and my car jerked back hard and i lost some speed. i really wasnt trying to do that again. and plus i want to keep my motor for a little longer.

and no at no point in the race was i in 5th. i only threw it in 5th at the end of the race.

Man you won't kill that motor, I use to beat the living crap out of that engine and Señor Shiney runs laughing gas on his so I highly doubt you will blow your motor. Even when I first got I was racing my boy's Audi and downshifted from 5th to 2nd by accident and didn't blow it, killed my clutch but not my motor.

that was such a frustrating loss. ive always wanted to race a 5th gen accord and when that time finally comes i blow it. or he was just faster than me. by the closest race ive ever been a part of. my front bumper was by his rear doors

I'm not too familiar with the first gen CL's, but I'm assuming they came with SS (sport shift autostick) as well as the newer ones. I have the auto with autostick in the Acura and Mercedes, and when I downshift from 3rd to 2nd or from 4th to 3rd I just pretend it's manual (minus the clutch of course). Slightly ease into the gas as you shift down to match the engine RPM with the trans, this will prevent the jerk (engine braking) just as if you were downshifting in a manual car. Same applies even if you don't have the SS mode.

Thanks, there's a H-T meet coming up in a couple months if you're interested. I'll probably be there in the Civic. It's a PA, NJ, MD meet so it probably shouldn't be too far for you. The West Chester meets are usually big. It would be nice to see some clean CL's represent. Check it out!

Probably 5 or 6 hours. It would be worth it though. Winter is killing me. I'm looking forward to meeting up with some Honda's guys.

(copyed and pasted from an old AZ thread in the fall)(i didnt have my header at this point either)

i was at my high schools football game last night and i asked this kid in my class if he wanted to race me tonight. he agreed and we hit up a popular highway to race on. his boy in a shitty looking del sol was with him. i had a feeling this kid was gonna be trouble from the start. so we get to the spot which is on the Edison Bridge in sayreville, new jersey. were both heading northbound in sayreville heading toward perth amboy. the kid in the del sol speeds buy us before we race. me and the kid are lined up and both in 3rd at about a 40-45mph roll. my buddy whos sitting shotgun does a 3-2-1 count and were off. i immeadiatly take off through out 3rd and halfway into 4th then he starts catching up but not enough to beat me. then the fag in the del sol is in my lane which is the fast lane. the motherfucker purposely did this. mind you this is a 3 lane bridge and i have no idea why he couldnt have been in the lane furthest right. so i had to slam on my brakes from what ever speed i was going (i reallly didnt no how fast i was going) to about 50mph. i would say i had him by 1 1/2 car lengths before that scumbag in the del sol pulled that stunt. so i didnt bother following them because i had a party to go too in my hometown of south amboy, so i just let them take off. i didnt feel satisfied and im not even sure if i totally won. this is probaly gonna be a huge aguement at school on monday. his car is a 5spd completely stock with subs in the back and he had no passesngers. he has a F23A4 engine making about 148hp. and i have a aem v2 with a little over 108K and my friend was with me and i had a full tank of gas with a budweiser beer ball in my trunk (not that had any effect on the race). i defenitly want a rematch. let me know what you guys think about this.

Try to get that rematch. Sounds like you could have held that lead if the ass-hat in the Del Slo wasn't being such a tool.
