the sc400 is quick enough that if he got the jump you could have trouble reeling him in, if you were stock.

if you left at the same time the advantage goes to the cl-s.

moral of the story, get headers.

headers shouldn't void your warranty. depends on the dealership. some of them are mod friendly, some aren't.

when i'm at the track i gate shift. which means the lever starts out in d1. on the street i'm usually in sportshift.

i guess i just have to learn how to sportshift in tiptronic.... because i just pop it into automatic and floor it.

after headers, what are some other safe mods. I have a AEM icold air intake ready to go in.

those are about the best safe mods (headers give 30 peak hp). super light wheels would be a safe mod. supercharger is pretty safe too, but it's ~ $4000 not installed.

you can do a search on any of those topics and there is a ton of info.

what about this vtech controller? how safe is that modification, heard it can add up to 30 peak HP also.

the vtec controller doesn't give much gain to a mildly modified car (intake/headers).

maybe 3-5 hp.

hey nesto, my first nite out racin i just floored it too (lost some, won some) after time i realized to use the shifttronic that way u can redline and shift smoothly. i find automatic doesnt like to redline at all and is jerky.
another trick is to not floor it from the start cus u juss sit there spinnin ur wheels and tryin to play catch up. u may loose out the gate, but ull blast past him about 2 seconds later.
let up on the gas slightly between shifts, and make sure u watch ur tach (AND WHERE UR GOING!) avoid goin over the redline.
im not claimin to be the next dale earnhardt or n e thing, juss postin my experience. n e one else is free to giv me better advice.

I never let off the gas, not what you want to do when drag racing. It will actually hurt your times. The challenge here is that our auto-trannys shift slower than the engine is reving towards redline. So you need to shift about 200rpm or so before you get to redline. Just practice your shift point so that you just get to 7,000 and of course before the revlimiter gets ya.

I never had much problem with these when I was stock. Not saying you can't lose if he has enough of a jump.

nah sc 400

You shouldnt loose to a Sc 400. I have a 2002 TLS I raced 2 sc 400 before and I won both of them. Once was pretty crazy and dumb. I was at the light and this guy with his girl decide to shoe off his cool sc 400. I had my girl in my car too. He revved and revved his shit. Not loud because he was stock but my window was down so I heard his lil dumb ass trying to show off and smiling at me and sayin some shit like I am gonna take this guy to his girl. Lighter turn green. CHIIIRRRRPPPP. I was a head and just end up like that the whole way. We raced a while I sa 1/2 mile THRU a 2 lane tunnel<- that was the scary part. and i came out 1 1/2 body ahead. sc 400 too heavy, even thou my car is pretty heavy. My bad to tell My story but going back to yours, wer you in SS.? Maybe that helps

i raced my friend in his SC300 twice, once i beat him really ruthlessly, the second time it was around turns and shit and he had the jump on me when we started he was like five cars ahead. Fun stuff, ss helps alot, being faded doesnt ...PEACE

If I am racing, I gate shift since you can hang in first gear longer. I don't think that it is good for the tranny though.

No way do I let off the gas when I sport shift unless I want to "sound" like a manual and I am not racing. That sounds silly but you can kind of sound more manual if you do that. The computer controls the shifting and will disengage everything that needs to be whether you let off the gas or not. No worries.
