Looking into buying a 01/02 CLS... Need your thoughts..

Hey guys first post here. I'm looking into buying an 01/02 CLS. The only thing that scares me is the tranny issues. Should i reaaly worry about it if I buy a Acura certified car???? Any other issues with these years of Cl's??? I was thinking of buying one in the 50k mile area and just selling it when I hit the 100k doom day.
Any help or thoughts would be great!
Thanks

If it's Acura Certified I wouldn't worry about it. They should take care of any tranny issues up to 100K miles.

Or what he said /\/\

Unless you are sold on only driving an automatic, you owe it to yourself to try out the 03 6-speed version. I love mine. otherwise any automatic CLS should do.

Try to go for an 03, but I know those are more then the 01-02 that your looking for. The 01-02 had the most problems for the tranny. Or ya get the 6 speed and your good. Otherwise the CL is a GREAT car!!

Thanks guys. Yeah I wish I can find a good deal on a 6speed. Here in Chicago the prices are crazy for these cars. The cheapest 6 speed I have seen was $23,000 with 45K on it. My budget is only 15/16K

With that budget you're probably stuck with an automatic. All round, it's a solid car. The tranny is warrantied til 100K. And the actual rate of failure for the trannies is pretty low.

Good luck hunting.

The warranty is 7 yrs/100k. So time wise, you're looking at just another 2-3 years of coverage.

Thanks guys! After being on here for a good week now and reading about the Autos. I think I'm going to wait and go for the 6 speed!! But of course I want it with Navi. Hard to find. What is a decent price for one with about 30-40K on the clock?
Thanks for all the help.

Im pretty sure you can find one for under $20k, when i got mine, i paid $18.5 (51k, nav), and a few other guys got theirs around taht range $18-19k all during the summer. Theyre still listed @ $21-23k but just keep lookin and dont jump into the first one you see.

Check out the Black market forum... there are a bunch of 01/02 CLS that are under 15K...

https://acurazine.com/forums/non-automotive-motorcycle-sales-9/

If you're looking to keep it until 99,999.99 miles, you should be fine...

If you're not already hooked on the Acura CL, cross shop a Honda Accord EX-L V6 in your price range. IMHO the Acura has a sweet powertrain by comparison plus a general improvement in perceived quality.

In my neck of the woods, the poor CL can be LESS than a same year Accord EX-L V6. Many want an Accord to a fault.

This is a smart choice... I started with an auto... and after the tranny crapped out I traded for a 6 speed. It is twice the car... you will never regret it. Just one word of caution... get the clutch checked before you buy. Itt is pricey to replace and not warranteed
