Looking to buy a 01CL

Hello everyone. I'm new here. I use to own a 02 Sentra but someone stole that and before then i had a 92 Civic. I'd like to get back into the Honda/Acura scene.

After doing some homework i noticed that the CL's in the year i want have Transmission issues. I know this is a person to person question, but how long does each transmission usually last. I also noticed that Acura covers the tranny only up to 7 years/100k miles.

My main question is this. I know it's better to buy a acura certified car...but at the same time...wouldn't a dealer warranty be just as good for let's say other issues besides the transmission. I just dont want to limit myself to buying only a certified car because i know most of the times that's just fancy letters to boost up the price.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank in advance.

I bought a dealer warranty for my car as it was not acura certified. Personally I don't think their is much of a difference in the coverage. Acura may make more exceptions due to brand image but that's a lot to bank on for the added cost.

What mileage '01 CL-S/CL are you looking at? As long as you've got some time left on your tranny warranty I say go for it.

Hey i noticed you're in philadelphia...so am I.....In west philly...my sentra was stolen down south street. But anyway...im looking for a 01 CL for around 17k. I found one in Jersey for 15k with like 46k miles on it. Looks nice and well taken care of. I was just wondering if there's any big difference between the Acura certified warranty and a dealership warranty.

Damn that sucks, especially from South Street (High traffic area).

I looked at the coverage they both provide the same level. I am not sure if the Acura one has a deductible but usually dealership ones do (Mine is $100).

That is a pretty good price I'd say. Mine was $17k for 37k miles.

When you get one check out the Meets section. I didn't make any last year but definitely want to this summer.

That's what i was thinking as well...but i dont mind paying $100 for a blown head gasket or something like that...i dont know what can go wrong with these cars but id like to have that piece of mind...up until 100k...then im screwed.

I'll definitely keep an eye open in the meets section to see if anything is going on. Im hoping to pick up the CL in mid april once Geico totals out my car.

01 CL were the first year of the auto/manual, and also the type s model. 01 were the most probelmatic. But hands down this is a great car, and NOT all tranny will be bad. I bought my 03 knowing something could happen, I don't regret it one bit.

You should keep your eye on the Black Market. $17K is a bit steep IMO. I bought mine a year ago w/ 37k at $16,700 and I feel like I got ripped. I could have gotten a better deal if I had known what I was getting into at the time.

Mike said it though, not ALL tranny's are bad. Around 5% of owners have problems. They just happen to all be members!

$17k is way too steep for an 01 CL-S. The 00 TL was the first (between the CL/TL) to have a SportShift 5AT.

If you can spend $17k and be patient, you can probably get an 03 CL-S 6MT. That's the cream of the crop in the 2G Acura TL and CL line-up.

Most 03 CL-S's with low mileage are feteching $21K-$26K. I paid $22K for mine 5 months ago, and thought it was a pretty good deal. I also have navi.

Odd, maybe it's location. Over a year ago, I was offered an 03 black/black CL-S 5AT with 31k miles CPO for $20k from Nalley Acura in Atlanta, GA.

Highly dependant on location... If I was willing to drive 600-700 miles to get my car I would have found a better deal at the time, but I checked before I purchased within 200 miles before buying my car.

I know when I used to live in Ohio vehicles in general were around 1000-2000 less than Philly.
