A little help regarding dealer suggested repairs...
Greetings...
Please bear with me as I don't know too much about cars.
I just got my 2001 CL-S back from it's 45000 service ($350! I thought that was a little steep, but that's another story) and had a question based on what they suggested I repair. Here is the text from the receipt I received:
"Techinician strongly recommends replacing both front knuckles and wheel bearings at this time because the front lower ball joints are worn excessively causing an unsafe condition."
They quoted me around $950 for parts and another $450ish for labor.
Is it me or does that seem like a whole lot of $$? Additionally, would I notice if I were having those problems? The car seems to be running well IMHO and I would think that if the lower ball joints were "excessively worn" I would notice somehow. I told them not to fix it for now and decided I should do a little research before forking over $1400.
Anyhow, thanks in advance.

My advice is to get a second opinion at a high quality independent repair shop. You might see the bill cut in half by the repair shop if the work does indeed need to be done.

Seems strange to me that the ball joints would go out after only 45k miles. My Accord with 237k miles is still running fine. Absolutely get a second opinion and if needed definitely check about warranty, unless you're past the 5 year mark.

its a scam, knuckles usually never go bad, its usually just a lower ball joint by itself which is like $40, and about $100 to install it.
I had my lower ball joint replaced for $150 including parts and labor.
get it done somewhere else....
