My 2001 CLS with 35k miles got appraised today for $13,000! The dealer had a tool that measures paint thickness to check to see if the car was damaged. He found a spot where the passenger 1/4 panel, passenger door, and hood meet and the paint was noticeably different. They ran carfax prior to inspecting my car and there was no accidents reported. At first they thought that I was trying to pull one over on them and paid for a repair out of pocket (not true), but at the end, they believed me when I said it had to have been done before I took delivery of the car.

I recall a thread about someone getting Acura to repaint their car cause the paint was so thin in spots. I'm leaning towards that being the culprit and not that my dealer damaged, then repaired my car.

The scary part is, that's how they determain if the car was in a wreck. They said my car was going to go to an auction, and the people buying would absolutely have the same tool they have, and stay away from my car.

I was pissed. Not at them, but at Acura. I'm glad that the Acura dealer wasn't close to this dealer as I'd probably be in jail now for killing someone... seriously...

Luckily, I got a decent enough estimate on my car at another dealer who didn't check my paint two days ago, so instead of slaughtering the Acura dealership, I went back to them, and made the deal.

I'm now sporting the ultimate soccer mom's car, the Forester XT 5spd.

The side mirrors of the 02 are different from the 03 aren't they?
I know the 03 are full color matched, but I thought the 01 and 02 had the black part underneath...
Or am I wrong?

24_Karat. The dealer didn't have anything to gain by lying to me. They were explaining why they gave such a crappy appraisel.

einsatz 02/03 mirrors are the same. Only 01 has the dumbo, dual color mirrors.

Damn man the CL is such a great car that 13k really doesn't do it justice.

yeah... $13k made me want to puke. I ended up getting $16800 for it. That hurt, but it was a lot easier to take once i found out my car was tainted.

 

yea... I watched and they were being honest. Something is definitely wrong with the car.

If the search was working, there's a thread about Acura's thin paint somewhere. That person was on the offensive, and pointed it out to Acura and I think he got his car repainted.

 

Painted or not, if the car LOOKED clean & had a clean CARFAX...the dealer will sell the car off the lot.

They only auction the questionable or POS cars.

And...the dealer ALWAYS has a reason to lie to you... ... $$$$$$$$

I've never sold a car before, but the second appraiser sounds like he was feeding you bullshit. Sounds like they are just trying to increase their profit margin.

The average buyer (take you for example), wouldnt know if paint was thin.
