Light Weight Battery, anyone have one?
#6
eff that I live were it gets -30f in the winter.....no light weight fails to start low cca crap for me.
generally speaking
Plate surface area = cca capacity
plate thickness = capacity to keep delivering cca (reserve capacity)
a well designed heavy battery > than a well designed light one

Quoted out of another thread:
CleanCL ran the PC680MJT. I'm running the PC1200MJT and it's a boat anchor but packs tons of power.
odyssey batteries are by far the best ive seen

that little guy cranked my car no problem and powered an extra set of HIDs, 200w basslink, and a highly modded car. with zero dimming issues.

I'm currently using a Braille B2015 Light weight battery. It weighs about 15 pounds and I've been using it steadily for almost a year now. No lights dimming, fast start-ups too. I am running the stock stereo btw.
My oem battery died and I needed more room when doing my projector retro's. I also wanted to save some weight. I forgot to weigh the oem battery but it had to be 40+ lbs.
Here's a pic of my engine bay to give you the idea of what a tiny battery looks like. I know you (op) have a TL but it should give you the idea. I tossed out the whole battery box and anything else associated. I originally had it mounted upright but these battery's can also be laid flat for turbo or s/c setups. I just think it looked better.

When ever people see it they ask whats wrong with my battery or why do I have a bike battery in my car? It's pretty funny.

However if you look closely the carbon fiber battery is part # B2015C. The non Carbon is #B2015.
I would have went for the carbon wrapped one but it was almost another $100 for just another pound off in a weight and a carbon box. In retrospect now that I'm captian carbon fiber with my cf hood and trunk I probably would have dished out the extra coin to add to the theme. Ohh well maybe next time around.
Off-topic: How'd you get your hands on a P2R CAI? Black market? He only made like a dozen of those for sale. If you remember I was the 6MT test rat for that intake and did a before and after dyno. Seen here:https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=p2r+cai I'm sure I could have gotten a bit better #'s if it hadn't been so hot on the day of testing.
Your going to love it btw. The motor sounds great and really loves more air.
Ohh one more thing I forgot to mention about maintaining a light weight battery: If you don't plan on drving the car for like a week, or are laying the car up for the winter a battery charger is a must. Preferably the type of charger that knows when to shut off when the battery is fully charged and not over-charge it etc...

I did much research on these batteries before I purchased mine. (from jegs btw) The TL diet guy inspired me. I got confused aswell and thought I had found a deal like that. They seem to use the same description and image when listing both batteries.

as for the intake, Sean is a friend of a friend so i got a good deal for it. if you wave the money at him he'll make whatever you want, since the only thing he keeps in stock are the spacers and whatnot. he'd probably make another set of his equal length headers

To answer your question:
Your right in that pic above I do not have the battery bracket/mount on there. When laying the battery flat the j-hooks that come with the battery mount kit have to be cut down some. Then you must bend it so it will grab under the hole on the battery platform. The reason is the threads on the j-hooks don't go down long enough to properly tighten down the battery when it's flat. The pic was taken while I was doing that... I had it wedged in there for the time being.
When mounting the battery upright the bracket fits but just barely. I didn't like it because of the way it looked, and it was stretching the ground wire too much. Braille was nice enough to have 4 places to screw in the supplied terminals so you can mount the battery a variety of ways. Let me know if you need any help when installing yours.
