Legitimate question reqarding jack stands

Someone please help answer this question:

I have purchased a 4 ton hydraulic jack AND a pair of jack stands. Now the question is how do you supposedly jack the car up to a fair height in order to place the jack stands underneath the each of the two side jack points under each of the sides? I know in the car manual there are four (4) total points in which you would use the car jack but if I use the 4 ton jack, there is no point to jack up the car!

When I had to install the comptech sways, I had to use a brick to jack the car up. I do remember seeing the jack points in the front and rear of the car (underside) but I don't have that manual with me. It's not in the consumer manual but it's in the technical manual (the one you buy).

Anyone have that diagram of where to place jack to lift car? I couldn't find it in the useful topic and search.

Thanks!

What I have seen before on other cars is find a spot in the front of the car so you can jack it up with out useing the jack spots...that way once the car is up you can put the stands in place. Dont quote me on this because I am not sure if it is the right way...but I have seen it done with out problems on other cars.

I lift mine by the front crossmember and the rear tow hook.

I would put the jack next to the jack point of the car and bring the car up and put the stand under the jack point. This is what we did with my brother's Passat. This is probably the safest way to go about it. I wouldn't know where the jack point is under the engine and it would very risky if you made a mistake

There YA go.

Use the REAR tow hook to jack the back of the car and put your stands in place at the factory spot.

For the FRONT, use the spot just forward of the engine directly in the middle of the car and then place the stands in the factory lift positions.

Would this be a good approach for installing sway bars? I'm assuming next weekend will be the time I put them in. Are there clearance issues that I'll need jacks or something similar?

Damn, thanks a million guys...Shawn: That is EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR...thanks a million for the pics..it helps so much!

For the rear, I didn't know how high to jack up since I am new to the 4 ton jack, I didn't know if it can extend as vertical as yours (almost 90 degrees it seems). As for the front, I'll look underneath to see if I can find that point to use the jack. I saw it in the tech manual but I forgot all about it.

Thanks! you the shet!

Very important! Don't forget to chuck the wheels BEFORE jacking
