My electrician friend and I were playing with a circuit breadboard this weekend and I'm considering hacking apart my tails and fabbing up some real led tails.

If I can fab it up and get them working well would anyone be interested in a set?

I built a circuit board for led door sills, but I can't find a sill withe Acura logo or name that fits any suggestions?

 

Maybe. Depends which route you go with the pattern and design but it sounds interesting.

I planning on making a few different patterns, experimenting with how close to go to the plastic.
My first design than I printed was around the edge, and the center coming on with the brakes like audi's do.
However i'm open to suggestions if anyone has any experience with designs that could chime in.

 

And if anyone has any cracked/broken spare tail lights they want to spare that would be even better

 

Yep, DeathMetal. He recently had a kid so this project was put on hold.

 

Depends on the quality, like we don't want taillights leaking water inside and having LEDs going out. But it is a great idea.



How about in a c-pattern, like this? With the brake lights coming on in the middle.

 

I can;t seem to export the file with out it corrupting, but in my favorite design that i've mocked up is like the audi tails two strips in a square and the center coming on when you hit the brakes.
The reverse light i'm thinking of a square,
As far as turn signals I was experimenting with making arrows, but real estate inside the lights is limited.

Designing the board is the easy part. Once I get some time to order or find a set of tails, I need to experiment with different brightness', size and angled led's, as well as how close or far front he plastic to mount, to get the best results in both day and night time driving.

 

The hardest part is designing a pattern that looks correct with the stock molding of the plastic. New lights have a particular patter in the plastic to get the most of the light emitted. I wish I could remold the rear tails but custom plastic would be major $$$$.

 

If you could get something mocked up I might be interested in it. Depends on styling of course...and price.

 

i'm trying to find a set of cheap oem tails. I'm looking for 01/02 and 03 tails so I can start experimenting with different types of LEDs and spacing. I don't want to rush this and have a shit result, I want to take my time and do it right
