LED Cluster

So im finally doing the led conversion but a little different than other people have done in the past.

Ive done the radio, Climate control, shifter, shifter gate, window swithches, and have also ATTEMTED the cluster but I only had like 7 leds so it was defintly not bright enought , so any ways have finally ordered 200 leds so I will have enough now to do it Im just waiting on the delivery.

I just have one question for the guys that have done it , Like I siad Im trying somrthing different but I wanted to see pics of the back of cluster during the install, so I can see if my idea will
work and buy my supplies before the leds get here. If I dont think it will work im going to have to do it the "traditional" way But If You Have Pics please post them thanks in advance

BTW im going to do a write up after im done with pics if everything goes well I think I will be able to simplfly the install for everyone wanting to do this.

Looks good, very nice work. The look of the LEDs is alot better and cleaner that the reverse glow gauges.

Heres a pic of my cluster:

i used 14 additional and then the 6 stock locations. trust me i tested this plenty to make sure i have even distribution.

and i did take the diffuser paint off the back of each gauge. just take your time.

I was able to take it of faster with a q tip and remover than with a blade (the stuff just wiped right off. Plus it was easier to leave some of the blue

seems like there is mixed opinion on whether just the stock locations are bright enough or even enough as far as light distribution. Anyone have a side by side pic? How are some people putting LEd's in just their stock location and turning out better than others?

I used the stock locations and it defintly did not work for me but I was using blue which in dimmer, did you sand down the tip of the bulb to get better light distribution ?

I goning to see if I can fit a piece of plexi glass back there and instal them in to that because im planning on making it so I can change colors ie double the leds so I need to find a way to make it a little less complicated hence the plexi but I am going to have to cut some stuff so Ill post pics in a couple of (or when ever my leds get here)

What kind of leds did you use 20mm lol the ones that I used in the stock location were 3mm and I couldn't see a thing at night!! Im getting 5mm bulbs now so hopefully they willl disperse the light a little better. Im also going to sand the tip of the housing I heard this helps to disperse the light as apose to focus it??

Yea, civicdrivr i'd like to know what LED's you used? I would prefer the swap to be as plug n' play as possible...

Are brighter non-LED bulbs available that would just disperse the light better?

^ Once you get it a part it is pretty straight forward

BTW the post of there dash lit up , not helpful

Telling us what bulbs you used to make it that bright, would defiantly be helpful

As for another light that would be possibley a better fit with more light distribution,

120 mm round CCFL/30mm CCFL

Benifits ----very bright, fits well
down side-- possiblly too hot, would not be an exact match to radio, and price is around $10 a light would be $40

My cost for leds was $5 for 200

Just in case you guys want way to much information LOL

I got mine from LEDautomotive as well. The entire plug and play dash (no soldering) ran me about $160. If you do get the kit from them, remember that all the switches (Cruise, seat heater) use the same bulb, so it doesnt make sense to get the ones made specifically for that switch since they have different prices for everything. Just count the bulbs you need and order that amount for the cheapest switch (if that made any sense).

The blue and white does look nice.

trackvaulter01-

I haven't done my door switches yet. I will be diving into those around Christmas though.

Im not sure how many LEDs your CL has as its an auto. The 6MT has different switches. I have 2 in mine.

So I finally finished every thing went great, took 2 hours and 28 leds start to finish.
But I have two questions for the guys who have done it

One, the needles are not light up very well is there a way to point the light at it or something??

Two, my gas gauge is not working very well probably because it didnt push the tabs down hard enough, but Could I just soder them instead of trying to push tem down completly flat ????

BTW total install cost $40 and I have enought leds left to do my floor which I am in the process of doing so I can change it from red to blue to purple and off
