Question LED Bulbs

After reading one of the posts about the LED conversion for the license plate light, I went looking on ebay for LED's. I am thinking about replacing the high-mount brake light with LED's. I know I need #7440, but how do you know how many LED's you should have? I'm worried about too much heat being emitted by the LED's. I'm thinking about getting LED's for the backup lights as well because I wouldn't mind being able to see when I back up. I don't plan on spending a lot of money for these though. Anyway, here's what I have in mind:

No need to worry about heat from LEDs at all man, they'll be MUCH MUCH cooler than any normal bulb.

Same misconception as HID (where as HID is brighter, but still burn at a cooler physical temperature)
