Also, how much ride height adjustability do they offer...meaning, how much lower will they allow you to go with Comptech springs and at what increments? And doesn't using a lower than stock perch with aftermarket springs void the shocks' warranty. Sorry about all the questions.

the saft is shorter to have less travel nothing to do with the ridde height...the ride can be lowered or raised .50 in either direction

Nova,
That's why I said I'd like to know where you get it done. Apparently most of the cost is in the labor. From what research I've done on the shocks (Koni's and Tokico's) they take off the original shocks then reuse the top portion that mounts the new shock to the car. The performance shop I called in Fairfax said that its a good day's worth of labor--hence the high price. They also said by the time you spend more than $1,000 for labor you might as well do the shocks and the springs at the same time. Quote for springs was about $400.00.
IF this is not true, I certainly would like to know!
Thanks!

i´m getting konis when i return home this summer from spain. does anybody have any idea how to adjust the shocks to acheive fore and aft bias closest to stock to be used as a baseline for adjustments? and what setting would be closest or equal to stock?

Like Mattg I have the original Koni Yellows with 2 perches. Koni doesn't recommend lower perch unless for racing on smooth surface. Koni Yellows lower my car to where rear is slightly lower than front thus giving better weight transfer! Had rear seats out for a month to figure what best settings were. I can't imagine anyone putting in new performance shocks with stock springs. Ride will suffer and stock springs won't handle the stiff Koni even at softest setting for very long before wearing out! Goodluck everyone with your installs.

Just posting an e-mail I received from Neuspeed that some of you may find useful.
Hello,
There are 5 grooves on the shock body that are seperated by a distance
of about 10mm. they come factory set at the center groove. Theoretically,
you can lower your car about .75" with stock springs or aftermarket springs.
Using aftermarket springs will not void the warranty. For further product
information, ordering procedures, or a dealer near you, please feel free to
give our sales staff a call at (800)423-3623 or (805)388-7171 or you may fax
them at (805)388-0030. Thank you for your inquiry!
Best regards,
Danny

sundance, call up vertex in tysons corner. ask for steve he's the manager and worked on ATLEAST 10 diff CL/TL CL-S, TL-S in the area. including all of my work. it should be no more than 200 for labor, plus the insurance of knowing he worked on other acl.com and atl.com members rides

yellows are more like $600 shipped, and that's a good deal. most places want $800, like TireRack.

Blown is Best
I'm running Tokico Illuminas set at 2 with Comptech springs. 1 is close to stock and 3 is on the firm side for street. I haven't tried dialing them up to 5 yet. The setup is very solid. I've been using Tokico struts in my cars for 12 years and they have been very good to me. The factory support is also why I stick with them. After 10 years on one of my cars, they swapped them out without a question.
The perch adjustment is definitely a plus if you're going to use it. If no, it just becomes another point of failure/problem.

Where is my super sauce?
Things I've learned from this thread:
I've scheduled Comptech spring installation and I was going to keep my stock shocks to maintain the current ride. I'll go with aftermarket shocks after the OEMs fail (hopefully in a couple years) -- just trying to get some info.

Mine are the same as yours and at the lower perch setting they are too low. About another 3/4" and I did not want to have to purchase a camber kit.

YOU RANGGGGGGG SIR ????
Ok here is the trick to the rear strut adjusters .I was in a panic the first time I installed these Konis as the damn adjusters are too short to clear the rear deck .So of to the scrap pile insearch of a solution .In my case and what I have been doing is making extensions out of old trunk springs .We have lot's of old trunk springs lying around since every spoiler we do also comes with new springs .I cut two pieces about 3 inches or so long .Each piece is now slotted on one end so that it easily over the blade that is normally used to adjust the strut .I use a die grinder with a cut off wheel to make the slot .On the other end a few minutes on the bench grinder creates a blade just like the one that is on the strut so that the supplied Koni "key" or "tool" can be used to adjust the strut .
Now the hassle in this is that the Konis use a hard as hell steel for the adjuster shaft making drilling this tiny thing a hassle .Fortuanately there is an easy out .I use a V shaped file to cut a deep notch on one side of the adjuster blade and a corresponding notch on the extension piece .The thing here is that a somewhat sloppy loose fit is what is needed here ,As someone else noted the struts aim straight at the speaker grills .Now that you have this made up I use a bit of safety wire to attach the extension to the Koni adjuster .Make sure the wire sits in the grooves of both the extension and the Koni adjuster .I have an old fashioned set of safety wire pliers to make the wire nice and tight ,The trick is to get the wire in that groove on both parts .Once this is done the extension can now adjust the strut while still having a bit of flexibility much like a U joint .
Next poke two small holes in the rear deck from the top down .Do not use a drill for this it will most definitely mess up that fuzz they cover the rear deck with .just use a philips screw driver .Next take a bit of plain old grease and coat the extension shaft and slide it in the new holes .Do not forget the grease or else you will end up with a squeek .put the car together and have some fun.
I realize that this would be better with some pictures so next time i do a set i will try to get a few shots in .Also i actually assemble the whole thing after the struts are in the car .It is much easier than trying to finagle the extensions through the rear deck ,but your mileage may vary .I think in total I spend about an hour on this ,
After it is al said and done the extensions are more or less lost in the fuzz of the rear deck and few people notice them ,in fact one customer called me to ask where they were .
Hope it helps ,Jens

about vertex....
I just tried to look them up via the web (Vertex Motorsports, right?) and no one picked up the number. Do you by chance have their number--in case I'm dialing an outdated one?
Thanks!
Thanks!
