Kinda disappointed in the my CLS tonight
Here i go rushing home doing about 80-85mph on a open road, i see a IS300 coming up behind me going a bit faster so i get into the other lane with switch to SS, as he goes past me by a car lenght he WOT and then i WOT from 3rd gear.
I get to about 6500rpm around 100 and go from 3rd to 4th to 5th foot down all the way, i get to about even with him at around 110, but by 115 i could not get in front, he was able to keep up with me, after 115mph my CLS was crawling along side by side from 115-125, i felt i was starting to lose him, but by that time, there was a car coming up in his lane and he had his signal on to switch lanes so i backed of.
Kinda pissed off, i thought the CLS could beat a IS300, his car may have some mods on it as it was lowered and had a large exhaust on it as it was very loud when he WOT. I had some bags in the back and had just filled up the tank, but still does the CLS have much power left after 100mph, tonight is just crawled after 105
Any thoughts guys .......

1st - why the hell did you shift at 100mph from 3rd to 5th? The fuck are you thinking? You till have up to around 110mph left in 3rd...where you'd then get into 4th and hit a wall.
2nd - 4th and 5th gears are our overdrive gears...as I just mentioned, once you hit 4th, it's almost like hitting a wall...4th is definitely our weak point...thats why you will want to stop by 110mph.
3rd - This guy obviously has a few mods because even stock for stock, from 80-110, our car clearly has the advantage over quite a number of cars...especially the IS300. The IS300 is a better race from a dig, or at even HIGHER speeds....

yeah stay out of 5th gear, but on the other hand, if you were in 5th and pacing him at wot in 4th, then that does show you your CL should be faster.

I did not think i had to redline the RPM gauge to beat a IS300 as i know they have a smaller engine, about 2 weeks ago someone here asked the same Question would a stock CLS a IS 300 and of course the answer was yes.
Remember in 3rd i was able to catch up with him, but after i caught up with him i did not feel i was getting anymore push from 3rd, i knew 4rd gear was useless so just went to 5th.
The point i'm trying to ask is, how much power does the CLS have after 105, after 110 i got to be in 5th gear, so i'm just saying the car seem to crawl after that, especially with this IS300 hanging on beside me.
If is had of been a clear road for the IS300, i would have kept going to 147 lol, if thats what it had taken to beat this guy.
I've raced alot of cars on this road i was on, and last night was my 1st kinda draw, i should of been able to beat him. But he was just hanging on right beside me all the way to 125

Well, if you caught up to him and then stayed even, then you won. If you would have started at the same time, you would have gone ahead and it would have stayed with you being ahead.
Also, we all know you hit a wall in 4th, but your rpms will still be higher in 4th than 5th, which means you'll get more power because you're in vtec sooner. If you had shifted into 4th instead of fifth, you might have pulled a little.

from a stop a cl will own a IS300, they run a mid 15 but from a roll a IS 300 is very quick its got alot of top end especially if it has exhaust. One of my buddies mom has 1 that he takes out, from a stop hes not shit but from the roll hes maybe a half of car behind me from 50 to 100.

And like i said guys, i just did not feel anymore power coming from 3rd otherwise i would of kept it in that gear to get ahead and then into 5th.
Like i have said in other posts before after my tranny replacement it just has not been the same

yea u would have had more pull in fourth over fifth.... is300 from a roll are quick... my friend has one w/ short ram and cat back... he can hang from like a 40mph roll

I would of but in the other guys lane, there was a car ahead, i could be a dick about and not back of so he would of had to slow down, he put his left indicator on and i backed of and let him in my lane, anyways at 125 alot can happen between 2 cars and the car that was ahead been as close as we where at night time, so with safety in mind i just left it at that.

Did you not read what i said, i felt like there was no more pull/power coming from 3rd gear, he was getting away so at that point i went into 4th and then 5th, and where side my side up to 125.
If i felt there was more power in 3rd gear i would of stayed until 110, but simply was not the case.

i went out today to see what my car could do... it was the first day below 60 degrees tonight... and i can tell you that once you hit around 118-120 in 4th, the vtec kicks in quite nicely and pulls you all the way to 138-140. i need headers. badly.

At the track, which is a very controlled and casual way to stretch out the car, 3rd gear pulls hard ALL THE WAY to 110. You shifted early, despite what you were feeling. Go try it, you'll like it.

When your racing.....you CANNOT afford to shift out of third gear till you get into the red, just before the speed limiter hits. You need to take third all the way out and that means a bit passed the redline. And NEVER EVER race in 5th gear. 4th is bad enough!!!
