K&N filter + all seasons

I'm picking up my K&N filter tomorrow but I don't know what kind of differences I'm going to notice in my CL-s. Can anyone with some real experience and knowledge tell me what I can expect (gas consumption/ horsepower)?

I also need some really good and quick advice on some all season tires. I've heard a lot about the Yokos AV4s but why should I take them over other tires like Michelen or Goodyear ?

are you talking about a k&n drop in filter? you may notice a performance change but that may be all in your head.. gas mileage will be a little better.. search for information on all season tires and read a lot of reviews on www.tirerack.com or the tire section of the 2g forum

I still want to hear some advice from people that have added the air filter to their CLs. What's the point in even getting the K&N air filter if it's all in your head and there is only a slight diff in milaege?
Also, please let me know if there are some all seasons out there that are THE tire to buy. Thanx.

because the filter will last longer than your car and you can recharge it whenever you want to... a recharge kit will cost 10$... i dont get why you would waste the 45-65$ on getting a drop in filter when you could be just getting a CAI and seeing some actual improvement

It does help in terms of trapping more Dirt particles. You may see an ever so slight performance increase. It does increase your gas mileage. I had the drop in for about 3 weeks before I got a CAI.

Keep an eye out in the Black market section here. People are always selling them.

EDIT: you can also, check out the TL black market also, as the TL/CL Auto are interchangable. Just make sure it is from a TL/CL-P for the premium model, and TL/CL-S for the Type-S model.
I had a TL-S CAI on my 01.

40-50hp and a extra 10-12 miles per gallon. Oh, and you do not ever have to replace the filter.

40-50hp gain with a CAI not the K&N air filter, right?

I had a CAI and took it off. The humming (Intake resonance) drove me nuts. I now have a K&N Drop in...it has served me well.

Same here. Went back to stock and got a K&N yesterday. Got sick of my girlfriend asking why my car was broken

I have both the K&N drop in and recently mounted Kumho ASX performance all season tires.
First, the K&N. I've used these for years and I generally noticed that they remove or at least help the acceleration flat spot you tend to get at mid throttle, mid rpm driving. That is all. Dont expect big gains. As for the tires, I chose between the Yoko 4 and the Kumho's and went with the Kumho's based on price, availability, ride, noise and traction qualities. It is a new tire so there wasnt much data on it 7 months ago but I've been generally pleased. not that they have 8k miles on them, I'm still happy. I upsized to 235/45 and dont regret it. I did lose 1mpg though. They lack a little feel on initial turn into a corner probably becuase they are a little softer than the stock tires but I'm used to it now. I am not in a snow climate so that did not matter to me.

The benefits of the KN filter is two fold, dont have to buy a filter again other than cleaning it every 15K with cleaner kit and you gain 1-2 mpg. I had swiss cheesed my stock air box (bottom section) to allow more air into the intake but got to much humming/annoying noise, so I went back to stock air box with out resonator and cut off U shape snorkel, leaving it somewhat as a short ram pipe. BTW it is permanently fixed with automotive silicone to the bottom of the airbox. It give a nice intake growl without the humming noise. My wife had said the same thing to me about the humming noise when I swissed cheesed the airbox.

The guys at a performance shop run oem's in their race car if that gives you a clue. Despite what the TV ads say, there is no performance advantage.

The only reason to go to a K&N is you don't have to replace it.

There's no one answer to that. Everythings a compromise and it depends on how you drive, where you drive and what is important to you -- dry performance, wet performance, comfort, all season, etc.

I put Avid V4S' in the stock size on mine about 2 months ago. Better performance and ride and one hell of a lot quieter than the stock Michs. Others have had good results with other brands, Contis for one. Read up on Tirerack.

try removing the resonator under the intake box. This allow the stock filter housing to draw more cold air from the bottom.

That sounds interesting but could removing the resonator lead to any other engine problems I would assume it's there for a reason. I could be wrong.

I put in the K&N filter about 1 week ago and I already notice the difference in milaege. I have to fill up every couple days due to the amount of driving I do so every little bit helps.

When you install a CAI, they remove the whole stock intake housing, including the resonator and replace it with the CAI. As far as I can tell, it's just there to dampen the resonance sound that the engine emits.

I've had mine removed for 2 years now. My freind who has an AEM CAI and comptech headers drove mine to compare and said it felt identical to his. I have OBX headers and K&N drop in filter with the resonator removed.

When driving normal, you wont notice any change, but wait when V-TEC kicks in !!!

I didn't know the CAI would create loud resonance, is this true with both AEM & Injen CAI for our cars ? Does everyone on this board have resonance with CAI ?
