K&N airfilters

So I got the K&N drop in filter and noticed something. I checked the filter and noticed the metal wire mesh weave had some little pieces broken off. There were some wire that was no in the weave. They were very small and was inbetween the filter element but I think thats dangerous. What if a little wire piece was to get sucked into the engine? I know its small enough not to do any damage but I would of thought that K&N would have some type of quality check, so check your filters before putting them in. On another note, They must oil the crap out of there filters. When I first got the car a few weeks ago I cleaned the Throttle body out. Put the K&N a few days ago. Go back to take some pics of the resonator and guess what, the oil from the filter left a trail.

If anyone is wondering I used BG throttle body cleaner. Some good ish! I think Valvoline makes some as well, just make sure the little straw doesn't go shooting into the manifold. Throttle response was a bit better then a dirty /sticky one.

I've got that on my mental list of things to do this summer... I've got to at least check out the TB to see if mine needs a cleaning, and also take a look at the IACV to see if it's getting dirty.

I haven't installed my new K&N yet but there is quite a bit of oil on it from the factory (more then when I've re-oil them in the past). Most of it is on the intake side of the filter and it should be sucked through the filter to the other side once installed. I may grab a paper towel and tab up the extra before installing it though. Seems your better off having too little oil then too much in the case of K&Ns.

yeah, I think most people forget about cleaning out the throttle body. Might have to do the EGR this weekend.
