K&N Air Filter

It's time for me to replace my air filter and TypeSKid recommends I grab a K&N Air Filter.. any recommendations on where to buy it? I find it for about $41 shipped all over the Web..

Just curious..

I bought mine from Performance Products along with some other knick-knacks like 303 Protectant.

I've seen K&N filters at AutoZone too.

I had one in my old car and noticed no difference -maybe a slightly louder noise at WOT.

I am more curious if they are indeed good at air filtration. I keep hearing mixed reviews.

From what I've seen, I went with a Comptech drop-in (foam) over the K&N (gauze). On reason I've never bought a CAI, don't like the filters. Now that the Ice Box is out....

No real noticeable change in sound.
No change in MPG.
I would doubt any changes in HP.

I got it primarily because it'll last the life of the car.

The only reason to purchase a performance drop in filter is for the life expentancy of the filter. If you going for a HP or sound gain stick with the CAI or ICE BOX

I heard/read a lot of mixed reviews too. It seems like most every product heralds itself as the best thing ever, and discounts everything else as heresy. Honestly I think you'll do fine with either the K&N cotton guaze or the Comptech foam, if you are interested in a reusable filter.

K&N filters were designed for motorcycle racing in the desert. If they work in that harsh environment, they'll work fine in your street-ed car.

Schucks and B&B auto want $65 for a K&N filter.

Comptech wants $59.99 for their foam filter.

The various web-sites want $41-$46 for a K&N filter.

Accel now sells a K&N type filter called Kool Blue which may cost less than K&N.

The Ice Box is $230.

A paper filter is $13-$18.

What to do, what to do...

Comptech drop in is $60 + shipping brand new! I think it is more than fair for $35 shipped. $15 is a reasonable price for a K&N.

I have yet to see a price anywhere near that even off the internet. K&N wholesale for an '02-'03 CL-S is around $38-40.

Cool, I have never been to a garage-sale type retail store before, I'll have to to try that next time I'm at Shucks.

Let me know if that guy still has a job the next time you go in. I would've been straight-up fired if I did that at any retail store I ever worked at.
