Just Mashed Out an AUTO 540i
I was comng home from work, smoking a cigar, minding my own business ( A Padron Delicias Maduro for other cigar afficionados)
and this dude in a Black 540i pulls up next to me, I think it was a 2000 or 2001 model.
He looks over and we go when the light turns green. I didn't floor it all the way at first, but when I saw he was racing I punched it. We were even thru first gear, I was a nose ahead into second near redline, and when I hit 3rd I pulled about 2 lenghts ahead, and exhaled a nice puff of maduro smoke as I went past him. I let off about 75 or 80mph and let him go by. We were on Peachtree in Atlanta, and anyone from here knows how the cops are always out. This was right by Peachtree Battle and Peachtree in Buckhead, slightly uphill too.
It was sweet, I especially enjoyed the perfectly timed puff of cigar smoke as I passed him. Very cool.

when these numbers sink into your head...then ask yourself if that 540 was even racing you.

Smoking a cigar while street-racing a 540, and pulling ahead in 3rd gear...riiiight...
You guys are getting more creative; what's next, dropping a 360 Modena while knitting?

don't get all excited, man.
It was a 540i, it probably was manual-->> (EDIT, I MEANT AUTO, MY BAD), I was in SS and I beat him to 75 or 80, plain and simple. I shut down cuz I know at least 2 spots right near there that always have a cop sitting there. And yeah, he was racing me, cuz when I let off he kept hauling ass, probably got a ticket.
And I did reace a 360 Spider once from 65-100 and let's just say that Italian exhaust fumes smell really sweet, kinda like marinara sauce

Guys, according to MT, the newest 540i auto goes from 0-60 in 6.6. CL-S is a bit faster than that. However, it should make up for lost ground in the 1/4. But like the guy said, they only raced until 80mph.

You guys and your magazine times. There is no way in hell a stock CL-S is going to beat a new 540 6spd or auto in 1/4 mile...no way!

Shaka,
Don't be jelous. The only reason why you Maxima owners don't like magazine times is because they all show the true reality of your car, it's SLOWER THAN THE CL-S. The fastest time ever published for a Maxima was 0-60 in 6.7. That sucks man! I said it once, I said it a million times, Maxima's aren't meant to compete with the TypeS. You should be comparing your car to the base model TL. It only has 225hp, weighs 3500lbs, has a 5sp AUTO with granny gear ratio's, yet it still has the same exact 0-60 time of a 5sp SE Maxima. And just like any Maxima owner can get a better 0-60 time, so can any TL owner. :p

6.7 sucks? Take a look at the new 2002 TL-S review in the latest Road and Track! Maxima is 4 door sedan that would destory your prelude! As for that s2000 good luck getting those times unless you drive the hell out of that gerbal! Love to see that thing up hills!

This topic is so humorous. No offense to acura-cl S owner, no way will a stock CL-S beat a 540i be it auto or manual. The latest car and driver edition tested 5.7s in 0-60s run. And yes their test car is Automatic. Furthermore, it's 1/4 miles are faster than E430, Jaguar S 4.0, Audi 4.2 A6, and yes even the allmight GS 430.
FYI, Car and Driver is the magazine that clocked CL-S at 6.8s to 60 and 15.2s to 1/4 miles. And 540i was clocked at 14.3s to 1/4 miles. That's more than a full second to 60mph and almost a full second to 1/4 miles. Trust me, the 540 was not even trying.

Why would I want to look at Road & Track? Everybody knows that they don't give Honda's a good word because Honda doesn't advertise much with them and give them lots of money. They say bad stuff about all Honda's. And yes, 6.7 0-60 sucks, considering what you guys have got. My Prelude weighs almost 3000lbs, has 200hp, with only 156 lb-ft of torque, yet Sports Car International was still able to pull off a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds with a '97 TypeSH. And keep in mind that since mine is a '00, it has 5 more HP, plus it makes more power at the wheels than the SH. So add ten more horsepower to that '97 Prelude SH that went from 0-60 in 6.5, and you've got my car, a Maxima killer! Dude, I've raced so many Maxima's with my STOCK Prelude (I don't even have fucking clear corners, thats how stock I am), and I have yet to loose to one! Why the fuck do you think I'm on this board in the first place? Cause I know a CL-S can whoop my ass, and when fags like yourself come and claim that they beat a TypeS, I'm not just gonna sit back and be your bitch! And whats so hard about getting good times with my S2000? Is it cause I have to take it to redline before I shift? Wow! Who would have thought! I guess that means that you can shift a Maxima at 3k RPM and still get good times. And dude, until you actually drive an S2000, don't even pretend that you know anything about it. Many people on this board that have driven S2000's can tell you that it's got plenty of low end torque. You can even look at the dyno's and see that after 2,500 RPM or so, the torque curve is almost flat! You'd like to see me go up a hill, huh? We'll I'd like to see you take a 90 degree right angle turn at 45mph.
Just remember, you are MY bitch!

If an S2000 has plenty of low-end torque, what doesn't?
PS - Whole lot of magazine racing going on in here...

Classy or anyone else that doubts this guy, please chill man, it's a story, if you don't believe it so what? Until you each have a 540 automatic that he raced, how can you say he's flat out lying?
I had a 540 auto, it wasn't THAT fast that I think I coulda blown away a CL-S, albeit it may have been an older model, but it still had 282hp and 295 torque. I know it woulda won over 80mph, but 0-60 I think it would have been close with the 540 winning probably. I think the 540 guy in this story either didn't get a good start or didn't race after 60...

VR, thanks for stating the facts. I've driven my buddies s2000 and while you have to launch it at 5k rpm to get a good run it does sufficient torque to really move.
hey, can we stop w/the personal attacks pls? I know Shaka is irratating but we're trying to change the atmosphere in RS.
thanks.

NovawhiteTypeS raced AC (auto 540) at least once if not twice. I'll email him so he can tell you how his race when down.

I'm not claiming that a CL will always beat a 540i, but I did it this time. if he didn't go hard, that's his problem, but I beat him until I shutdown ~80mph

I'm surprised you'd need even that, though. I figured you'd see my win light come on from way back there. :p

I kept seeing the other guy's win light coming on while you were out there running, but I was up in the stands so it was very easy to see. people were commenting on your losses all day long...
just the same, though, I'm not scared of you. I'll race you right now. and I'm pretty sure I'll beat you, too.
