Just making sure...

I searched this topic, but before I go screw up my ride....
To take out the fake wood around the cup holders on the 01, you just open the center console and pull it off. I started doing it but I got cold feet b/c I thought I was going to break it. Thanks for the help.

PS. That fake wood is fugly.

Yep, the trim will most likely crack though, but I don't think you're worried about that.

Well I want to paint it, so I dont want it to crack. How have many of yall taken it out without the trim messing up?

It's almost impossible, once it's stuck, it's stuck. Maybe try some adhesive remover or goo gone with a paint scraper. I tried to pry mine off when I had the cupholder assembly replaced and just cracked.

It won't crack or break!! I've done it several times.

Like you said, lift up the console lid, with a small flat head s/d, pop up the ends. Then when you can get your fingers under it, lift if off. Once you get it almost off, with the top portion of it still kind of "stuck" in it's place up by the a/c controlls, pull it straight back towards you, or in the direction of the back seat. It comes right off, man. It's not going to break. There are clips holding it in there and I've noticed those clips seem to be pretty stout. Don't be a wuss! Yank than bastard out.... carfeully!

Easy stuff!
