just installed piaa 001 driving lamps...

I wanted to see if they would be alright to use just cruising around...tonight I turned them on and walked about 50 feet in front of my car to have a look...it was like staring into the sun. good god these things are bright. I don't remember my old piaas being half this bright...

so now I don't really even have much use for the lights...definitely would blind oncoming traffic...

anyway swapped the road lamp housing for the 03 black plastic insert and mounted the lights in there...took less than an hour. lights were 50 bucks on ebay, pretty cool cheap and easy mod I think.

which are the "001" lights beet? Plasma ion? I love PIAA lights, have plasma ion fogs on my jeep for driving in snow storms and they work great, especially on the rural road I travel to get to the ski resort I patrol at.

yeah, i got those for $41 at AA auto on sale. i have them mounted in between the roadlamps and disconnected the roadlamps altogether. i angled them to the outside slightly to act more as fog lamps than driving lamps.

no, I have the PIAA switch for now.

did you do the TL switch? how did it work...isnt the TL switch 5 wire vs. the piaa 3 wire?

I also had my glass break sensor and alarm LED installed where the TL switch would go....not sure if I want to deal with switching that all around. Could you post a pic of the TL switch if you put it in?

I don't get why piaa makes their switches with the wire coming out of the bottom, and with only double sided tape to hook it up. I would like to keep the switch but then I've got to see the wire coming out of it, and I think I would have to cement it somewhere since that tape doesn't stick to anything.

i got the tl switch. there are 5 wires, but they still function like a 3 wire switch.

2 power wires - one powers the swithc light, one provides power to the relay and "fogs on" light.
2 gorund wires - one grounds the switch light, one grounds the "foglights on" light.
1 wire - sends the power to the relay (equivalent to the 3rd piaa wire).

i have the 2 power and ground wires together to simplify things.

I am using the TL switch. I wired all 5 pins, so the switch lights all work. Had to splice the PIAA's 3 wires into 5 but it wasn't hard.

i just did the opposite and combined the 5 pins into 3 wires.

that was 75% of the time on my install....I couldn't find any holes in the damn firewall. I finally found one that works but is kind of hard to reach. Its hard to describe where it is....I'll snap a picture when I get out of work and point it out to you if you want.

Unless someone else can describe where one is before then.

You can use the hole that everyone uses for their stereo installs. Use Silverknights instructions. It's up the firewall on the drivers side just above the steering column.

yeah I had a 4 gauge in there too...couldn't fit the clip part of the PIAA wire through there without taking the power wire out...didn't feel like doing that so I went through this other hole thats about a foot away towards the center of the firewall.

The folowingconfiguration of the TL switch will allow for

Turning on and off fog lights as long as the side marker lights are on.

Fog lights work independen from the headlights.

Fog light icon on the TL switch is intensity controlled by the dash lights dimmer switch.

Pin 1 goes to ground
Pin 2 is a 12 volt output to the relay that turn on the fog lights.
Pin 3 and
Pin 4 is a 12 volts input that should be taped from the red/black stripe wire going to the VSA switch
Pin 5 is a variable input from 12 to 0 volts and it should be taped from the red wire going to the VSA switch.

Hope it helps

That's not exactly right when using a kit like the PIAA, or Hella's they already have all the wiring there. The setup is good if you have all the parts & need to wire it all, or already have factory foglights like the TL has.

where do you recommend I get a TL switch from. Last time I tried to order from that genuine acura parts store they told me minimum order is 50 bucks.
