Just got back from the track....
Had some results that I was pleased with, but nothing spectacular. This track is a bit uphill so it typically runs a little slower than capital raceway around here--that will be my next stop. My friend with the Cyclone runs 2-3 tenths faster at capital than at this track.
Anyways, here are the results of my three best races:
14.7156@94.3616
Reaction time: 0.7672
60ft: 2.2594
330ft: 6.2944
1/8 mile: 9.5560
My opponent was some beefed up Mustang 5.0 that never made it off the line b/c he broke something on launch. LOL.
I think I lost the second 14.71 slip--it was almost identical to this one. I absolutely murdered some riced up Civic that ran like a 16.5 or something.
14.8456@95.3048
Reaction: 0.7325
60ft: 2.2705
330ft: 6.3596
1/8 mile: 9.6387
This was against another beefed up 5.o that was doing burnouts like crazy. He just barely beat me (14.2199@94.4794)
So, anyways, I was pretty OK with two 14.7's. The only way I tried running it was as follows:
Torque break up to about 1800RPM no VSA. Slam it and SS at 7000RPM. Never tried fully auto or manually shifting the gears. Being my first time I just wanted to get this one under my belt and then mess around later. Car seemed to be launching very well with minimal spin on the track, but it was impossible to hear what was going on with the launch b/c there was so much other noise and distraction.
I'll be upgrading to pulleys soon and then lighweight wheels. Next time the spare and the jack come out, the road lamp in front of the intake is removed as well.
Oh yeah, and I was running with 3/4 tank of gas (accidentally added too much the day before).
I also killed a turbo Talon front wheel drive, a Dodge R/t (I forget the name of the 2 door Dodge) with an intake and some other stuff) and had better times than many cars including two Dodge Ram R/Ts ( i was faster every time) and many other cars. Overall it was the most fun you can have for 15 bucks.

Nice run, since it's your first time. Next time you run try the manual shifting this will improve your time, and also make sure you got a bag of ice for your intake manifold. After each run try to put the bag on top of the intake manifold to cool down and it will help you engine to perform better cause of cold dense temp....

btw good job!
The PSI in the tires won't matter much b/c there is so much rubber on the track that the traction was excellent (and my tires are pretty sticky already). But, they were at 32psi FYI.
Also, the launch doesn't matter at all during time trials--the clock doesn't start until you break the line.
Lastly, I will definatley try different driving techniques next time--I wanted to at least get a reproducible baseline so that I can compare it to future mods.

The weather was hot on the first runs which were 15 flat (must have been 86 or more in the sun).
The later runs were much cooler, around 70 degrees or so.
There are definately a few things I want to try next time around. I want to work on my launch on some normal roads to get a better feel for the best technique. My launches did feel pretty good though. All of the cars that beat me were either even or behind for the first 60+ feet.
I think the best thing I took away from this experience is how stupid it is to race people on the street. I was never big into that anyways, but I realize for 15 bucks I can go and race every car I would ever see on the street in a much safer environment without risking thousands of dollars and fines and auto ins.

An up hill drag strip! What will these morons think of next?
Maybe they should spend a few bucks and level it off/resurface it.
It's a track that's been around since like the 50's or something. It's only a few degrees uphill, but uphill none-the-less! I have a funny feeling it will not get that leveling/resurfacing of which you speak.
Oh, and I've yet to go to a track that wouldn't be considered "a hillbilly track"

Fuck that, just ride in a tiny one-man-sized cage with the TypeS sticker stuck on the back of it. Mount that on top of the axles and engine. Use a funnel for an air intake, no filter, and a cutout for the exhaust. Nothing else.
Can you say "twelves"?!

That's what my "crew chief" wants to do. The second I started getting some decent runs he was talking about losing weight, unhooking air conditioner belts, seats, spares, etc, etc, etc. (He was mostly kidding, of course--well, actually I'm not exactly sure if he was kidding
The thing that really gets me is that a 6speed CL wit hthe following mods would be an incredible sleeper:
Headers
Intake
Supercharger
Pulleys
VTEC controller
Carbon fiber hood
245 tires on like 16 inch racing wheels
Removed backseat and spare
Man, this car would fly. I was surprised to see that a lot of Corvettes, Camaros and Firebirds were only running a few tenths better than I was. There is no doubt that driving technique plays a huge factor at the track. In many instances a slower car CAN win. For example, if I were racing that beefed up Mustang and he had a brekdown atthe line I still would have won that race and claimed bragging rights!!
