jumpy at warm idle

After I warm up my CL to normal operating temp, there seems to be a little jump in the idle every second or so. It is very very faint, but I notice it, no one else seems to. Feel it most in the seat of my pants.

I only seem to notice it after driving for a few minutes somewhere then putting it in park and sitting there and letting it idle for a while. I notice it most when i am waiting outside my girlfriends job waiting for her to come out.

It is like smooth - jump - smooth - jump - smooth etc...almost like a hiccup every 1 second.

I don't notice it at all while It is in drive though, only seems to happen while in park.

Any ideas? Can it be the winter gas? A bad plug?

I'd run some Techron FI cleaner through it for a few tanks, switch to Chevron fuel for a month and check the grounds under the hood just to be sure. If you've got more than 50k miles and constantly use different gas, you've probably got some intake buildup.

BTW,

On my old car, I used to get my FI clean done professionally. The oil change place used to inject FI cleaner right to the injectors with a special setup. My car used to feel awesome afterwards. Can i do the same to my CL? If so, I will have them do it during my next oilchange.

NO ! This is NORMAL for this engine ! Mine has done the same since day one ! It's the nature of this motor ! Don't WASTE your money on Techron cleaner, it's not needed with these engines so I've been told by my mechanic's !

Willdogs:
I understand your concern. I've noticed this 72,000 miles ago when I bought my Type S too ! Chill out, as it's nothing to worry about ! My mechanics that work on my cars, said putting gas treatments in these engine's is A WASTE OF MONEY ! Please send me your money, I'll take it.......

As I said, this noticed the day I got the car and checked it out in my garage, call my dealership, they looked at it and said this is normal, don't worry.....If it runs, enjoy it ! :P

Clean IAC Valve?

Regarding a slight hiccup in the idle speed, I wouldn't say it's "normal," but I would say it's common. There's still a reason for it happening, though. My 2001 CL-S doesn't idle perfectly either. A couple of times a year, I'll run some gas treatment in it, mostly to get rid of any water in the tank, but also to help keep the injectors clean, but it still has a little lump in the idle every now and then. In the big scheme of things, I wouldn't worry about it until you notice a problem while driving it.
Lately, I've been thinking I want to clean the Idle Air Control Valve, since this is a common trouble spot. Anyone have a proper procedure before I start a new thread about it?

Tosh
