In true James Bond style, our spy photographers brought you first pictures of the new Jaguar XKR from the next 007 film back in issue 696 - and now here are the first official shots of the car.

Driven by villain Zao in the movie, the stunning green roadster features new side mouldings and chin spoiler along with aluminium rollover hoops and - not your average optional extra, this - a pop-up machine gun. While there are no plans for a Bond special edition, the film's star car clearly points the way to the styling of the facelifted XK8, due to be launched in September.

The car from the latest film in the Bond series, Die Another Day, features revised air intakes on the bonnet and beefy alloy wheels. The production version of the XK8 will get a 4.2-litre version of the company's V8 engine coupled to a six-speed gearbox and - in the flagship XKR - a supercharger.

Film fans should expect some explosive motoring action at the premiere of the movie in November, and can rest assured that the latest Jaguar will have a licence to thrill. Unfortunately, there won't be a machine gun on the options list of the showroom car, and the stunning green paintwork is exclusive to the cinema version, too. A team of engineers blended the regular paint with pure gold - at a cost of nearly £2,000 per litre - to coat the body with this shimmering sheen.

But that wasn't the only modification. The chase scene was filmed on a frozen lake in Iceland, and the sleek XK bodyshell was fitted to a shortened Ford Explorer 4x4 chassis to boost grip. Six of the specially adapted cars were created because of fears they could be damaged if the ice broke. For our hero, though, the name's Vanquish, Aston Martin Vanquish. The world's favourite spy is going back to his roots in a Newport Pagnell creation, after famously driving a DB5 in the classic 1964 Bond adventure, Goldfinger

 

Too bad, that would definitely be useful with all the assholes on Miami streets.
