I've lost that "GM Feeling"....

Guys,

I have a few questions for you - I'm looking to get out of my 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and into an CL Type S.

My problem is as follows: I don't want to have to eat tuna fish and animal crackers, pick up aluminum cans beside the road or sell my bodily fluids to make the payments.

Every dealer I've spoken to has offered me between 9k and 10k for the GTP, and the local Acura dealer has the car I want for $28,450. My fondest wish is to be in the sub $300/month payment area but my trade is not as highly valued as I wish it was (or think it should be).

The specifics on my GTP are as follows:
55,000 Miles
GM Extended 75,000 warranty in effect
Supercharged V6
GTP Package
Heads-up-display
12 disc cd changer
Premium sound with aftermarket (Rockford) speakers and dual 12 inch DVC subs
Power heated leather seating
Auto climate control
Premium high polished wheels
Metallic gree paint

Any ideas? I don't want another American car, but all of the German cars are either lacking in feature content/power, or represent a "step down" from my current ride.
Therefore, the CL is my 1st choice due to the overall package and bang for the buck.

Sorry for the length of my post.

Regards,

Filet

How much you plan to spend on the car?
What things you want in your car?

Answer this questions first, then you'll know exactly what car you should get.

Try selling the car instead of trading it in. You should get a couple more Gs by doing that. You need to put down about 13,000 with a 5 year plan to get around a $365 payment.

Check out Cars.com for the current retail market for your ride. I did a quick search in Chicagoland and found http://www.cars.com/carsapp/national...=used&quote=on
which appears to be close to yours. (13k) Shop hard for financing options online as you would for the car's purchase price. You'll have a huge downstroke. Any professional lender woiuld love to do a deal with you.

Why would you want to trade a good car for one with such potential problems???

If the GTP was like a Ford Escort, I can understand wanting to change...

Just my 2 cents...

The GTP has been like a very fast Ford Escort. This car has had a new engine at 12k, a new supercharger at 18k, a transmission at 27k, etc.

I think the dealer has driven it more than I have. Not to mention, the GM dealer is so very friendly and accomidating in a difficult situation.

I'm ready for a luxo name plate and the service experience that is packaged with the name.

We'll see what this week's classifieds bring.

Regards,

Filet
