I've been State Ref'ed... CARB fk'ed me

Few questions, maybe the gurus can answer them for me. I have the UR Pulley set (alternator, power steering, crank) will this pass the inspection? I know it doesn't modify the emission systems but will they still fuck me on it?

Can I use the comptech carb paperwork for my XS Headers? http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/de...o/D-455-21.pdf

or do I have to have something stamped on the header?

Any help really appreciated in this dark time for me and my CLS.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Not sure about the pulleys. The Comptech Headers have a CARB metal tag tacked on them so I don't think using the Comptech paperwork will work. I've even heard of issues with some of the older Comptech headers that had the older CARB number on them confusing the Ref.

How did they flag you to send you to the Ref. Roadside inspection?

Good luck.

The pulleys won't do anything. However, your headers might as CT is the only CARB certified.

I was sitting in traffic back in December and the bastard pulled me over for tinted taillights, asked me to pop my hood and I was done for at that point. Car is currently at the shop getting the stock headers and stock pullies put on... I just didn't feel like doing all the wrenching this time around. We'll see what comes of this.... most likely i'll get a huge fine for the "modified emissions" violation. This is gonna cost me close to 600 bucks im guessing.

What does it mean when your State Ref'ed?

I've never had to deal with emissions/visual inspections...although I hear I am going to have to soon.

If a cop suspects you've modifed your car, he can send you to a State Emmissions testing referee. I've heard of guys getting sent to the ref for loud exhaust. Once you're at the ref, they will go through your car with a fine tooth comb to make sure it complies. One guy I met said they even pulled out his ECU and looked at it. His mistake was that he forgot to remove the JWT sticker from the e-prom and he got nailed. Another guy failed because all the vacuum lines didn't match the diagram. They're pretty tough in CA.

^^^ where at in STL are you? I live off Tesson Ferry now, but I just bought a house in Bellevegas. I love the cheap gas in MO though, 2.97 for premium yesterday

Now onto something that pertains to this thread, does IL require the strict CARB emissions tests? My first serious mod would probably be XS headers, but I don't want to get jacked if I take my car to get the emissions test done

Wow, thats crazy. Hopefully FL doesn't go that wild, even though my car looks and sounds stock to the casual observer.

CARB: California Air Resources Board. California is the strictest state. some products usually say 49 state and CARB approved. well the 50th state is California.

If you are smart you run with a COPS sticker or two on your window... you know, those stickers that say you support the police officer's fund or something. They only cost you a $20 donation but they have saved me a ton of $$$ over the years.

Or you can just pay the fine, like $500. Sometimes, it's not worth even bothering putting stock shit back on if you have tons invested already. My friend with his 500whp RX-7 got state ref'd. He had over $20,000 in his engine, and it looked freaking sweet. He told us he just payed the fine instead, which only ran him $500.

I don't know how it goes, but if you're asked to get state ref'd, and you pass, you only pay a small fine. I had a friend do that, and his $700 tickets dropped to around $114. I don't really remember how that went about. All I know was he got ticketed for something else as well.

I didn't know there was an option to just pay the fine for a Ref ticket? I've done that for tinted windows - paid the fine and moved on. For the Ref, I thought it was a mandatory appearance.

That's what I thought. But he said he just paid the fine.

Yeah a few of my friends payed the fine aswell... my buddy with a 240SX/NEO6 motor just payed like 400 bucks... better than swapping in the stock motor.

I still think im gonna get fucked for the "Modified Emissions" violation on my ticket.. everyone says thats a pretty penny, we'll see what the judge says. My cars all back to stock now and slower than ever

^^ Word. This occurance happend 4 years ago. So I wasn't sure if they changed anything from then till now. Guess not. Definetely worth just paying the fine if you have way too much done to the car.
