IS300 is SLOW. CLS pounds on it everytime. ALthough there is more aftermarket support for the is300 such as turbos the '03 6MT comes with alot of goodies handles well with the addition of HLSD and better weight distribution.

IS 300 stock vs CLS, the CLS should kill it in a race.

Dude, for 30k, you can get either the CL-S with 260 HP and 232ft-lbs, or you can get an IS300 with 215hp and 218ft-lbs. Plus the CL is about 1.5 seconds faster in 0-60. OK, I'll give the IS brownie points for handling better, but throw in some sways and springs for under $1k and you've pretty much evened the handling. On the other hand, how much $ is it going to take to get the IS to match the CL's speed...?

Feature-wise, I'd say the CL has a slight advantage as far as standard features are concerned. The IS has more rear seating room, nicer sound system and light-sensing headlights whereas the CL, on the other hand, has leather seats (leather is an OPTION for the IS), and limited slip differential, heated seats and sunroof as standard equipment.

But the IS does have those cool metal pedas and door sills. Us CL folks have to order them thru Austin...

Off the line the CLS should always win against an IS300, once moving around 70 or so then the IS300 ain't no punk. Frankly, having raced both on the highway in my 540, I actually think the IS hung better than the CLS at high speeds. Maybe it's the Straight six, not sure. It just seemed that way. Like to have at it a both cars all together.

The CLS 6spd, was disapointing to me. not much faster than auto if any, but some reason seemed to handle better. Like the aluminum trim...great touch!

I agree with AC, the IS at high speeds is more in it's element.

If your thinking about resale, the IS wins. WOW factor, IS wins. Aftermarket support IS wins. Reliability IS wins. IS factory cd rocks.

The CL-S is faster 0-60, yes we know.

check out www.clublexus.com for more on the IS 300.

To me the CL-S is a very comfy cruiser than a sports car. The IS 300 is a sports sedan period.

Both can be bought new at great prices.
but throw in some sways and springs for under $1k and you've pretty much evened the handling
not when one car is rwd and the other fwd, to me sways and springs still don't= a 540i in handling, close but not exactly

Oh man, perforance isn't everything IMO... I'm more of the conservative kind, but when I was shopping around, I had high hopes for the IS and it was actually at the top of my list for a while during my research (before going out to the dealers).

Then I saw what a piece of shit the car was. The L-Tuned looked like crap on wheels with cheap cheap cheap skirts and crappy lights and horrible grille. Then the interiors! Dear god what a piece of shit! It was like it was made of cardboard! I mean what the fuck?! It's well over 30k!
Of course, then I drove it. Pretty damn nice ride!

Gotta admit, the car looks tight from the outside... I just think it should have been a Toyota, not a Lexus. I also checked out the Solara SLE V6... That was more Lexus material than the IS...

...It's a nice car, just not worth the $. That's my opinion, though. This coming from a guy that swore by Toyota/Lexus back up until last month when I traded in my Camry for my CL-S :P

Before you jump in....how old are you? I just don't want you to be one of those 16 yr olds with a brand new car sucked in by Honda marketing...
Look into what you want to do and how much you really wanna spend. If you want to seriously race it.....and still want the CL...get the 6spd (more bulletproof tranny)....if you want to corner on rails...get a Lexus and some 19s cuz you ain't gonna go fast any other way...

ya know...with equal rubber on a 03 6M I'd put $$ on the CL.

check this out

CL
200 ft. Skidpad (g's): 0.85
600 ft. Slalom (mph): 63.0
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadt...6/page003.html

IS300
Skidpad: .83g
Slalom Speed: 62.0 mph

On 2 other tests however somewhere the IS300 got .9Xg, I have driven both cars, and I can tell you that the IS300 will out handle a CL anyday.

I agree the slalom is closer to the .9 G spec than the .83 which is more like a 3-series....shh!!! oops!! I said there is something out there that'll own a 3 -series.... I'll back away slowly from this subject...

True, but how does the car FEEL in the limits. I'd take an IS 300 over my GS for instance at the limits even though both have high skidpad numbers.

Not many people will have a chance of feeling a car at its limits. That should not be a limiting factor in car purchases. Otherwise we'd all be driving around in older Porsches.

Yes, the IS300 does handle better. CL-S does everything else much better.

More room, larger overall, bigger engine, all standard equipment.

Do the numbers, you can't go wrong (that's what I did).

Yeah, I also suppose you also believe that "BMW is the ultimate driving machine" crap also. Right?

I don't know about Mitsus! It'll be like Audi to me. They let down before, so just give them time to make up in engineering, packagingn, marketing etc. I'm sure good products will come from them, just not right away, nor right now. Audi has improved dramatically. Mitsu still has a way to go in order to earn the enthusiast's hearts... Lexus is the winner, being able to do it almost right away.
