i was paging through the Mercedes model lineup for this year after going to the auto show Sat, and i read something startling...the SL600 comes with a 389HP V12, and Mercedes claims 0-60 times are at 5.9 seconds...so according to the numbers, just the numbers, the new Altima with a 240HP V6 is faster 0-60 wise...and how much less is the Altima??? hella lot

now, i was just focussing on 0-60...higher numbers i would HOPE the SL600 would kick the ever living sh!t out of the Altima, but that doesn't discount the disappointment i have that the performance numbers of the SL seem to b lacking...i guess the SL is one heavy mofo!!!

 

New SL55 is 4.5-4.7 0-60, that I guess is decently quick. Oh, and women will not flock to the Altima, they will to a Benz.

I assume you mean the current 2002 body-style (non hard-top). If so I do believe (correct me if I am wrong) it has the old version of M-B's 12. The new gen. 12 is currently only on the S and CL. Now unless, M-B quietly put the new 12 in the SL before it's makeover this Altima race would make a little more sense, but not much! Cause that old 12 sure is old!

 

I just checked... The current Sl600 (due for extinction) still has the older V12 (is it ~10 years old?). The new gen 12 has less hp, but is overall more powerful. Still doesn't excuse the Altima being faster

 

but what gets me is that the altima weighs about 3000lb, where as the benz weighs in at like 5000lb!!! and it's just as fast...of course it's got a 1/3rd more horspower & twice the cylinders...

 

here is another perspective: I would get the MB over the altima even if the MB does 0-60 in 10 secs :P

 

Who cares if the altima is faster to 60...if you roll up in your benz next to that altima, i guarantee you that your car is pickin up the snatch...

 

my thoughts exactly...who cares if an econo box can hit 0-60 in 6 seconds when you've got a 6 figure snatch go-getter!
