Insurance Rates

The time is getting close for me to start shoppin around for a car. I was just wondering if insurance is alot on a CL-S since its rated at 260HP. If i get one it main driver would be my dad who has a good driving record, but i'm 16.

If you guys dont mind can you post your insurance rates?

your insurance will be through the roof, my car is 5 years old and half the value of a CL-S and the insurance is 1800 a year. I am 19 with no tickets or accidents

Your insurance rate is more a factor of who you insurance with, your age, and your driving record. At age 19, you might want to stay away from my company, GEICO.

I'm doing 850 for 6 mths for 2 cars (A CL-S and Mazda MX6 LS). $500 deductible for collision. I'm male, over 25, 1 speeding ticket - that CL-S was too tempting for me to stay below 50 in a 40 zone!

Some ideas for lowering insurance since you're a student:
- get a cheapo car and have that listed as your primary car
- see if they offer "good student" discounts ~20%

Good luck!

I'm 23, Mom is main driver.. $1,800/yr. Clean record and $500 deductable...

For a 16 yr old, you're probably looking at $3,000+ per year. at least....

Lease's are more in insurance I found out $2800/year over 25, no tickets/no accidents(on my record anyway) If the car wasn't leased, it would be about $2500.

29, single, and I'm paying $60/month with $500 deductible for premium insurance coverage. What I suggest is to do some research and shop around for insurance companies..

yep, that helps.

I pay $470 every 6 months for full coverage with $500 deductible through state farm in harris county. (that includes the elevated liability coverage honda requires since the car is leased.)

but like you said, we have almost all of our insurance though sf (everything but my motorcycle) and my family has been using the same agent for years.

the part that amuses me is that my wife's '97 saturn sl2 is only $40 cheaper a year to insure.

Yea, i think were gonna buy a couple hundred dollar POS and keep it parked at my store. I wonder how much that will bring the insurance down.

I would try a company called Amica. I am 21 and on my parents policy, and after our insurance (Safeco) decided to rape us by charging something like 3600/yr (you'd think it was a vette- some crap about the type s being high performance....whatever), we decided that wasn't going to happen. I have NO tickets, no claims, nothing, and they still wanted to charge that much. Amica's rate was by far the lowest for my car, I think around 1300 a year.

Well Mapman, I pay $760, no accidents or tickets, and I'm 49, so I guess you are 55. Hey, does the rate go down when I join AARP?

You must live in a higher-risk area, or have some other factor affecting your rates, DreamU - 'cause I ain't 55!

It is nice to know that I'm not the oldest guy here, though! Are you?

Age 25, one stupid ass ticket for an illegal turn. 3 points now.. fought it twice and lost both times.. Insurance is with State Farm, full coverage 250/100 deductable. My insurance is 90 dollars a month for the 2003 Type-S 6-Speed. One thing you have to remember is that they ask you a ton of questions about how you are going to use the car... such as... Is the car for pleasure or work. How many miles do you drive to and from work. Is the car garaged... I have home owners insurance with State Farm too so I get a discount on my Auto. I am not telling you to lie, but what they don't know will do nothing but help you out in the long run....

Mapman, mystery solved. I called my Allstate salesman since we have similar cars (your 2003 should actually be higher) I thought our rates should be comparable. Apparently not. Different parts of the country, and even within the same state, have different rates. For example, here in Oregon I gotta buy PIP (Personal Injury Policy?) which other states may not require. So I got the preferred rate but it would change if I moved to Chicago.

Another interesting fact from the salesman: they have no idea how many tickets I have nor do they monitor it. They only monitor claims so if I never make a claim, tickets don't affect rates. Even if I made several claims, the salesguy said he still gets to make part of the call about whether my rates go up - partially based on loyalty.

Am I the oldest here? Not likely, in the fall of 2000 there was a 55 year old here. Now that the site has grown to 5000 users I'm guessing there must be at least one 70 year old!

Insurance varies a lot as to where you live. When I was going to school in Albany, NY, my insurance was about as would be expected for a single male. However, when I moved to New Haven, it almost doubled. Even now my insurance rate changed when I moved out of "downtown" New Haven to the burbs 20 minutes away.
