insurance question....

well i was talking to my claim agent the other about my car. i'm going to get it fixed pretty soon and want to take it into marcos. however, the appraisor came and estimaed the damages to be about $1400, yet marcos estimated $3000!!!! well i asked my insurance company what would happen under these circumstances, and he told me that the body shop would have to call the appraisor and tell him the cost and the reasoning behind the cost. If the appraisor felt that the price was fair, then the insurance company would cover all of it minus the deductible, otherwise i would have to pay everything that they felt wasn't fair. Is this right>? If this is so, how do people get new paint jobs and like body kits and stuff outta accidents? I was thinking about getting a new paint job just so i could take car of some scratches on other places of my car, but now i'll be happy if i can get my car fixed...i dont want to take it to some cheapo shop... Also the other person was at fault and my agent said that hopefully it wont be too long before this case is resolved and the other party will reimburse us. What happens here? Shouldn't I be able to get my car fixed for whatever price? That's how i always thought it was...maybe I was wrong? Some advice would be much appreciated guys thanks i'm still a newbie when it comes to insurance and car accidents....im only 17 after all but hey no better time than the present to start learning right?

I don't think insurance companies just pay whatever they want. That would be pretty stupid of them and invite fraud. How do they know this shop isn't your buddy who's going to bill them for $3000, do $1400 worth of work, and split the difference with you?

you know....I was thinking about this one time. So say I got into an accident and it wasn't my fault. Now there's places like macco that can do the job...make it look alright, but use very cheap paint and well basically not do a great job. They offer to do the job for 1000.

Now the place that I know will do a good job, say....for example sake, Acura's body shop, and they quote me for 2000. Will I have the option of taking it to acura, or would I have to take it to where they tell me to take it, macco?

My thoughts are that because I was not at fault, I should be able to get my car basically back to how it was before the accident. Why would I have to put up with a poor fix up job while I wasn't even at fault?

Just my thoughts.....I guess this is what happened in this situation too. sorry

Is this Marco place an Acura dealer. If you take it into the dealer, they will write up the estimate for repairs. Then, your insurance will send someone to look over the car together with the estimate to make sure that it is correct. As long as it is a dealer, they do not give you any hassle on approving the repair cost.

I have been through this twice with my 98 Accord.

find out who is a direct repair for your insurance company, take it there, there is no confusion between the billing and prices

I second this. I've even had a hood spec'd for replacement when the body shop wanted to use a little filler (dent the size of a dime, or smaller), and the insurance (the other person was at fault) covered all.

well...someone told me i think it was xkrazix, he said that sierra acura's bodyshop was marcos. So say my insurance company gets a pricing from marcos and tries to argue them down on it...if i get a estimate from acura and it is more expensive, will my insurance company be more lenient just because it is a dealer?

DUDE, you had better call your agent and have them run a quote for you. aAsk them how much they will raise your rates over the next THREE years. Chances are that you are going to have to pay out more than it is worth.

You'll have to pay a 500 deductible to start, then the rate increase, which if you are 17 will be in the neighborhood of1700/year depending on your state. The only way insurance is the way to go is if someone else hit you!! i didn't take time to read the entire post but be advised.
