Installing Subwoofer
I was wondering if anyone had directions or a website that diagrammed installing a subwoofer on our cars. I bought an Infinity Basslink and I don't feel like paying someone $100+ to hook it up. Any help? BTW, I know there exists better sound systems out there, but I just wanted a small "filler" sub.

Silvernight should have instructions. I'm not very familiar with the basslink, but some of the other guys on the board have it. You should be able to hook it up with no prob with some help. Good luck.

I just read Silverknight's install. Question: Should I hook up the basslink to the head unit or the factory amp. Silverknight said you need a "good amp" if you want to tap into the factory amp. I'm assuming the basslink isn't supplied with a great amp, so is the headunit tap a better idea for good sound?

the power of the factory amp makes no difference in how it will sound, you are simply taping into the wires to get a sound signal....not power.....from the amp...the basslink has its own amp, so thats all it needs

Thanks for your help. Two more quick questions - do you hook the power wire up directly to the battery (+)? And do you need to take out the back seat to run the wires to the trunk? Thanks again.

yup, run the power wire to the battery, and all you gotta really do is pop up the seat cushion and yank on the plastic trim on the inside surface of the back seat under the side window ti pull it out far enough to get your hand in there to push it through, its kind of a bitch, but it works best with 2 people...have fun, and make sure you are careful splicing into that factory wiring harness, theres tons of wires and they are very close together, just make sure you get the right ones, and dont actually cut the wire, just use one of those wire stripper tools to strip the plastic coating away from about 1/2" of the wire just enough so you can splice in.

I finally got around to installing the Basslink today. It sounds great, but I have one concern:
I seem to have to turn the sound up further than before to get the same level of loudness. I spliced the Basslink into the outgoing speaker wires from the factory amp. Is this correct or should I have spliced into the incoming wires from the head unit?

Should have used the input wires coming from the head unit. These are already line level, so you can splice in a pair of RCA plugs into this wire, & use the RCA inputs on the Bass Link. Jimcol711 did this recently. I have mine setup the same way, but I don't have my car now, so I can't give you the correct wiring. Do a search for BassLink in the audio section, it should be in there.

Thanks...it won't be hard for me to re-splice as I haven't put the trunk lining back in yet. Is there an advantage to RCA's over the speaker-level inputs? They are, after all, spliced into the same signal wires.

NOPE. The RCA cables are tapped into line-level wires (pre-amp). The line-converter gets the signals from speaker-level (post-amp) then converts the signals back to line-level. If you can skip it, why bother with extra steps and chances of noise getting into your system.
I did the template a while back and I didn't know much about sound system in the CL

Ok, I just switched everything over to the RCA connectors using the line-level wires (pre-amp). Now the thing doesn't turn itself on. Is there a signal wire to tap into to run to the REM on the back of the Basslink?
The wiring info lists: (3) WHT/YEL Constant Power
(5) YEL/WHT Radio Switch
Are either of these the correct wire to tap into so the Basslink will detect a signal and turn itself on?
Geez, I know doing it yourself saves $$ and gives you self-gratification, but damn this is taking too long!

BTW, my log-in name is SilverKnight, not "Silvernight" as in your sig.
