I am seeking some advice on the procedure to remove a broken rear view mirror and affix its replacement on my 2001 CLS. I live some distance from my dealer and have purchased the new mirror. I was told that removal requires blunt force (a hammer and punch was mentioned) and the danger of breaking the windshield. This seems extreme. Help!!

 

mine fell off by itself! pop the plastic cover and it will slide down. The dealer repaced mine for FREE!
