Installing a Cold Air Intake

I was looking at installing a Cold Air Intake on my car, but have little knowledge of the car under the hood. The Acura Dealership i got o is off the map with their price. My question is: What is the difficulty range when installing these things. I have read some of the manufacturers state that it easy to install, and requires no drilling or anything. Just simply install the brackets and that’s it. Before I go out and spend the money I want to be sure. Thanks to everyone who can help!!

It is a 3 on a 1-10 scale... No driiling needed. If you want a bypass valve, a little cutting of the CAI is needed, but still no big deal.

Go for it...

Very simple. Probably one of the easiest mods to install.

Thanks folks for the help.. I am not to inclined to mess with my car under the hood. These newer type engines out today are too complex. I will give it a shot after hearing your replies. Thanks again!

It's not too hard. Actually, it is harder to uninstall it than install it. The factory airbox is down a hole in the CL and it's kind of hard to get to. Once you get to it from under the bumper by removing the cover, it's easy.

Oh man...this Amir guy had some major issues.!!!

I don't know if I should bad or laugh at this guy. What the hell.... Is it harder than it looks? I don't want to be the next 11 hour mechanic on duty LOL... I still thing I can do this myself! Does anyone know which is the best CAI for the CL. I have a '01 CL S-Type 6 speed AT. Pretty much all stock. No mods..YET!!

I am not looking of a huge boost in HP, but it would be nice to have a little with a better gas mileage! Thanks for the help!

Yea thats a great mod I remember someone photoshopping a 6speed shifter behind an autostick and its looked funny, maybe he got that model. Did you order the CAI model for the MT or AT, either way it may not fit your car

I have the AEM. You really don't need to order the separate valve. As for installation, I would caution you to be careful after you have installed the filter, DO NOT put back one plastic screw for the plastic panel under the car near the the filter. Otherwise, you will puncture the filter without knowing it. Some members in the past have done it. Use plastic tie instead of the screw for the panel. The whole process is not difficult, just time consuming Very time consuming for some people

A guy I know stated that installing a Cold Air Intake would be useless, and that I should look into buying a vchip or something. I believe it is some type of sensor you put in front the ECU to trick into performing at rates it would not normally perform at. Something about it kicking the RPM's needed to get the vtec down to about 3000 or so. What do you folks think about this? I am hesitant to do any thing like that!

Oh yeah..why the hell didn't Acura put the darned fog lights switch in. It sucks that they wired into the wiring harness for the low beams...

Thanks for the help..the Noob!

The Vtec switchover is pretty much at the best spot in the rev band to have it. Not sure what the vchip is though.

Yeah..I think that the set rev band for the vtec is good as well. I am not out to race anyone..well, maybe a few for fun, but nothing major. A guy I work with bought a 2003 Maxima, fully loaded with a 6 speed. He has several mods done to it..headers, new intake (CAI I believe), exhaust, HID unit installed, and thinking about NOS. I told him he would damage his engine quickly by running NOS, but he is crazy enough to do it. His car is fast as hell. Chirps the tires in third gear. I don't want anything like that, but I would like to take those darned punks that had mommy and daddy buy them their ride! Fudge those guys LOL!

I wouldn’t take this guys advice.
The CAI adds a documented 8-12 Horsepower and there is no “chip” for our car at this time.
I don’t think he knows the CL-S too well.

I see...... I have read about the "chip thingie" on other posts. It is basically some type of chip harness that piggy backs off of the ECU. Not an actual chip, but some type of device that tells the ECU to richin the mixture or turn on or off the vtec. Basically the information going into the computer, and changes the data to make the car perform better. It is expensive though, but it quite useful. I wish I could have more info on it, but it does exist I have seen it. Oh well. No worries!

You should be proud of that post it's a classic! If I were you I would just play it off like it was a gag and make fun of everyone for believing it.
