Installed my own body side molding. Thumbs up!

I had body side molding installed by Springfield (NJ) Acura when I picked the car up and I thought that this looked and worked pretty well on my black car.

While at the autparts store the other day, I saw a roll of this stuff - about 1 inch wide - for about $15 and I bought it. Yesterday, I installed it on the front bumper and rear bumper to reduce the amount of nicks and cuts it is getting from parking etc. Basically, you cut it to size with a sheetrock knife, line it up and peel the tape backing off. It is 3M stichy tape and so I think it will hold.

It was easy, it was fast, it looks pretty nondescript on the black color and it will protect the bumper. Best spent $15 since the M6's got put in.

Yes, I need details about the dealer-installed stuff. My dealer said none existed for the car!

True, no official package exists for the car. What I have is standard 1 inch wide black molding - pretty basic stuff. The dealer installed this off a big roll that they had.

Guys, I got no camera. After taxes are paid, I think I might be able to buy a digicam. Prop taxes due in 2 weeks - IT NEVER ENDS!

So I'll have pics in about a month

hi everyone,

I too installed the body side molding during the weekend.

I do not have pics of it either but I do have pics of another 2 cars which I saved from honda-acura.net before it went down.

I payed $105 for an exact match colored body side molding.

Can I email the pics to someone to post it up?

So did you all get the generic molding material? I saw earlier post complaining that the molding for Accord doesn't match our car (the cut angle at the end). Is that true?

Send the pics to soopa@acura-cl.com

I have generic material that is black and you cut your own ends - I cut mine at a 45 degree angle and depending on how anal you are, look fine.

I use the accord coupe's bsm
and that is why it was so expensive.
was thinking of going mikeS18's method but decided against it as it feel that it looks like a pain to maintain. At least I can wax the BSM (from the coupe) and you do not even notice it from 1 feet away. Blends in perfectly with the car.

I have pics of black CL with generic molding from Springfield acura.

and pics of a white CL with accord coupe molding.

Will send to soopa@acura-cl.com right now.
Anyone using william@acura-cl.com? Wonder if I can get that from soopa.

True, mine will soak up wax and be a bitch to clean off. It will also discolor in time and require lots of amourall or similar stuff. But it beats the scratches in the plastic bumper - geez, my terrier jumped up on the rear bumper and scratched it...yuk!

emailed the pics to soopa already.

Just have to see the TAT for him to post it up.

ALso, the pics of the black CL from springfield is from a guy named Mike. I tot that it was you, MikeS18.

I have the generic ones on my old car and it was simply a pain to try to remove excess wax that got on it. (as described by Mike)

Willang,

I saw www.HandA-Accessories.com selling the accord molding for $93. Is that where you get from? Howcome it doesn't specify coupe or sedan? Are they the same?

Also, anyone used Accord door edge guard? Thanks.

jjsf,

yes, i got it from there. After adding 3 day select UPS shipping, it comes to approx. $105.

You can select the coupe option.

I do not think that the accord door edge will fit at all. Our door design is totally different and even the position of the coupe BSM is different.

jjsf,

you are welcome!

It took me about 3 months to decide and then had to wait for spring to arrive as the ambient temp. to install the moldings is >60'F !!

Honestly, for my black CL, it is not noticeable at all.

Good luck selecting on either one.

P.S. about the door edge guard, you can buy generic ones and install it. I installed generic vinyl ones and as always, a black car has it advantage.

langjae,

the one in the pics for the black is using the generic molding that MikeS18 used.

The one for the white CL is using accord BSM.
I used the accord BSM for my black CL and you can't even notice it at all. If you think that the white bsm blends in with the car in the pic, you should see my one. (too bad I do not have a digital cam).

langjae,

the bsm on the black CL you are refering to is the generic molding used by MikeS18.

The one on the white CL is using accord BSM and if you think it blends in well with the CL, you should see it on my black CL. You cannot even notice it from 1 feet away. (too bad I don't have a digital cam)

Hope this helps.

I think the sides look ok, but i dont like it on the front and back. I kinda liked the clean lines of our cars without the side molding.
