Installed my Comptech exhausts

They're actually CL-S axlebacks that I installed on my TL-S .. they fit PERFECTLY FINE... so spread the word.

They are perfectly aligned, and the only thing that sorta bugs me is that they aren't flush w/ the bumper, but they're still visibly from w/in three feet from the edge of the car. They sound great, i'm very impressed with them.

the drone.. yeah, it's there, but I've been so bored w/ my TL-S on the highway lately, that it's nice to have the throaty note to listen to if i get sick of the radio.

Power increase? Don't know if I detected any MAJOR power increase, but subjectively, I didn't feel like I lost low end power, and I feel that if anything, I have a nice, smooth pull to redline now .. and that's probably the added sound, more than anything, but I'm enjoying this so far...

more to come...

Do you drive in auto mode or in SS?

If you use full auto mode, then keep it in D4 instead of D5. It drones a lot less for me in D4.. and since the chip mod, I think it drones even less now.

Just curious, @ what RPMS does the droning occur ?? (i.e in 4th @ 2500 RPMS) I have Thermal R&D's and have yet to even hear the CT's

Droning for me occurs b/w 1700-2100 rpms... if I kept it in 4th all the time.. i'd be going to the gas station more often .. and that'd cramp my style... so I'll just keep the radio up higher than the drone.

The droning does not sound like resonance. It sounds similar like what it would sound like if you were driving in a mustang v8 w/ straight pipes (less loud than that) or something of that nature... i sorta like it...

I love the rumble i get when i start my car up in the cold... and that low rumble i get when i slowly roll away in Drive...

i use d4 for city driving and d5 for highway, in the city w/ d5 when he brake it makes weird shifts so i keep it in d4

the gas mileage w/ d4 in the city wouldnt be more than 1 mpg worse than d5, just use d5 for the highway

i wanna ride in a cl/tl-s w/ ct exhaust...

I rode in an Accord w/ the exhaust in residential areas .. that's how i came to my decision .. however, i won't know what I really think until a couple weeks from now when I've gotten used to everything .. so far, i love the rumble .. very aggressive sounding.

I hope so .. i need new tires to make this car hook up better..

i've noticed a little loss in low-end power .. but the plus side of this is that i don't peel out as bad, and thus I'm actually out of the hole quicker! My top end seems to be more powerful. This may have turned out to be exactly what I needed for the track since I have such horrible tires.

The Comptech exhaust looks better on a TL then a CL. Congrats on getting them.

Day 4 after installation, Comments:

So far, I still like the sound. I'm noticing more and more the loss of power in 1st and 2nd gear .. though this is what I've noticed, the loss of power is more noticeable at light to moderate throttle loads...

However, when I jump on it .. moderate to WOT .. the car seems JUST as quick as it was before the axlebacks, if not quicker in the lower rpms and noticeably quicker (not by much) up top.

3rd gear pulls stronger now on the highway .. again, I can't be for certain that the intoxicating sound isn't adding to my sense of increased speed. Only the track will tell the truth, so we shall see.

Day 14 or something:

I'm noticing something that could be one of two things:
a) my tranny is starting to show signs of slippage
b) my car is producing more power in the upper rpms thanks to the exhaust complimenting the intake/headers ..

Why do I say this... well, when I floor it, I notice that between 1st and 2nd gear, the car will bounce off the rev-limiter occasionally. It never did that before... also, while cruising at say .. 50mph, and if I floor it, it'll do the same b/w the 2nd to 3rd gear shift. I'm very aware of subtle changes in my car.. so I wonder if this is thanks to the exhaust. I notice the top end is stronger now .. highway power is increased ...

Low-end is definitely decreased .. I never "snap" off the line anymore, nor do I squeal my tires w/ light throttle anymore (31,000 miles on the stock rubber). The cool part is that if I floor it ... there is minimal spinning of the wheels, and after 3000rpms, it pulls strong to redline.

More to come after my trip to the track this weekend.

exhaust doesn't do jack... I can promise you. It's all in your head. If you install any part in your car you'll "feel" some differences even if there are none. I put my stock ones back on and didn't feel a thing except for the loss of sound. I still sink back in my seat through vtec.

True but don't confuse power gains for track conditions and more driving experience.

I agree... driving experience is only better now i think by the fact that I love the sound ... but power gains (though I may talk about them like they're super noticeable) are very minimal in daily driving.

I had the CL-S CT Exhaust on my TL-S. I have a couple problems. The one TL_Type_S mentioned, 1)it doesn't stick out as much. 2) the left one hangs a bit lower then the right one, there is no way to fix unless you bend the brackets. 3) i have a body kit and after awhile, you can see burnt marks on it.

CT exhaust are pretty good..but not work $600. I would go out to local muffler shop and get a pair of magnaflows for about $250 installed.

At first the droning really annoys you, i had to buy the CT silencers for the first couple weeks, then i'm used to it now...but sometimes my passengers get a headache.

AcuraTLSFan...

thanks for your input... so you WERE able to correct the low hanging left one w/ bending the hangers? How did you bend them? Thanks

I tried to pm you but ur mail box was full. You can take it to a local muffler shop, they will torch it to heat them up and bend it. Think it cost ~$10. But if you have those liter size butane torches you get from home depot, you ccould probably do it urself.

if worst comes to worst just pull one of the exhausts closer to the hangar by using some metal wiring. Ghetto rigged but it worked on my friend's TLS. Doesn't it succk that the CTs (with their price tag) don't line up right?
