Install Front TL Lip without Bondo!
Hey guys, I decided I wanted to share something I came across recently.
A local former member was selling a TL front lip that he had installed on his CL. I decided to check it out and was a bit surprised to learn that the way he mounted the lip was a bit different then our usual method on here of bondo.
He trimmed the top of the lip starting from where the lower grill starts all the way to the ends. Since it was precut for me, I went ahead and installed the lip using about 5 1.5" screws and about 4 3-4" screws.
The lip isnt molded to the bumper as there is a clear line where the lip starts so this install is definately not as clean as the bondo method but it takes less time and is reletively easy. Sorry for the limited instructions cause I didnt actually cut the lip, I just installed it. I will try my best to answer questions.
and of course here are the pics:
Circled are the areas where the previous owner and I installed the lip with screws. Red for the shorter screws and green for the longer screws. repeat with the same screws for the other side.

Notice where the cut start, in purple.

I was going that route (not using any glue or bondo) but in the ended decided that it would be pretty stupid to not glue the lip on there.
Reason:
*Just incase if u hit something, it wont break off or fall
*these are getting harder and harder to find
*people wouldnt steal it easily

its a little short at the end but its not extended in anyway. as a result, there is a small crack at the small lip where the furthest screw attaches to.

come on guys, let me post my teaser pics lol
all that scraping is done from the prev. guy's wife. athough i've already scraped it a few times and its still very securely attached. its pretty hard to steal since I needed more then 4 inches of clearance to put in the 3 inch screws and with the lip on, I didnt have that much room. I had to put the front end on ramps/jack stands

no gaps, check out the third and fourth pic. The 3 inch screws around that area pulls it in. again, obviously this isnt as clean as a molded lip but I think the results are satisfactory.
Thanks for all the praise everyone. I cant take all the credit cause the previous owner did most of the hard work. I hope this inspires some people to go look for that front lip.

looks pretty good. You can tell the lip isnt made for the car and is not at the angle it was designed for but it still looks pretty good and being black probably helps. I wanted a tl lip kit at first but now I am leaning a little closer to the rj kit on silver. I most likely will never add a kit tho cause its just for looks and adds weight plus scraping issues. If you stand above the hood and look down do you see any gaps?

Most lip/body kits are for looks only. Very few are actually functional and even fewer of us would be able to harness that functionality.and this lip kit is only a couple pounds at the most, I can lift it with two fingers.

just regular zinc plated wood screws. the size I got were #10 x 3" I believe and #8 x 1.5" for the short ones. you get like 5 per dollar bag at home depot. just make sure you get the ones that sit flat to the lip.

Yeah, lip kits are for looks not function, weight seriously?
like NSX said, a tank of gas weighs far more than some plastic or fiberglass

black does not show black gaps. the only major difference i noticed is the amount of flare the sides of the lip have.
