I bought some 01 tails for my 03 CLS. The 03 turn signal bulb holder does not fit into the 01 tail lens, seller tells me there was nothing else I needed to hook up all 4 bulbs into the 01 lens, but my 03 turn signal holder definitely is not gonna fit into the 01 tail socket.
Can the 01 to 03 conversion be done, or am I the first to try it?!
Please don't ask to buy the 03 tails, definitely not selling.

 

lol, just was about to ask about the 03 tails and then read the last sentence

 

the socket for the 03s was different. do a search for this, 03 owners had to buy a different socket or something in order to get it to fit.

All bulb sockets except for the blinker are the same for 01-03. The blinker socket required an ADDITIONAL harness to adapt it for insetion into the 03 tailight that snapped right on top of the 03 harness.

So, my guess is that you actually have to remove that portion of the 03 harness to get back to the 01 socket and then is should plug right in.

 

That's just it, there is no other socket besides the 03 one on my 03.
I need the socket the 01 turn bulb uses BEFORE the 03 socket is added. I do not have that.

 

i recently swapped tails from my 01 with someone's 03. You need to swap the harness, as well as the one bulb from each to make it fit. I forget exactly which bulb it was, but obviously you know when doing it cuz if it does not pop right in, its the wrong one.

 

I didn't get any harness with the 01 to swap out on my 03. I only have the 03 harness.
there is no where else on my 03 to plug in the turn signal bulb.
Can someone show a picture of the electrical socket the 01 turn bulb goes into? that is what I need for my 03 car.

 

I didn't take pics when i swapped mine, but what we needed to do was trade tail light housings, as well as the one bulb and the wiring that went with that bulb. the bulb we switched was the one that will not pop into place for you most likely. and the wire harness that goes with that bulb will hook right up to the connector from the car. if you can't get those pieces from the person you got the tails from, you might have to get them from a dealer.

didn't the tail lights come with bulbs in them?
