Inspection + Tints = FAILED

I must say, having a large red sticker on my windshield that says FAILED or whatever it says is kind of depressing.

I went to get my car inspected and everything turns out great, except for the fact that in NJ you are not allowed to have tints at all on the driver or passenger windows. SUCKS.

So now i either have to have the removed, which i dont really want to...
OR.. i can try to find a private place to do the inspection where they will pass me with the tints...

Anyone got any advice? Know any places in NJ that will help me out?
How long does the new inspection last, 2 yrs? 6yrs..?

too cool to take the tint off....

I sure am glad that PA no longer fails inspections for tint. I just have to keep an eye out fo the cops, because they will still give me a big fat ticket

Welcome to the club, I have been going through this for a while now, everyone I found that was willing to help charge $100.00 and up. What I did was took the fronts off, passed, went back to the tint place that did my tints and told them that they were messed up so I had to take them off, they will only charge me 50 bucks to get them back on.
Good luck with that

So i am prob gonna have to spend $100 - $150 to get the sticker from a private place.

How much does it cost to get the tinti removed and then put it back on??

i bought the car used with the tints on it so i dont know where they were done...

Also, how long is the inspection good for???
because if it is only for like 2 years then that blows and i would either have to pay everytime or keep getting the tint off.. i dont think its worth it.. but my car is an 03 so dont they do those long term inspection stickers now that last like 6 or 8 yrs?

that sounds like way too much effort and money to do every year.

I can't believe that tint on the fronts doors will cause a failed inspection in NJ. Is it like that in a lot of places?? In Texas, you can have 20% up front

I got free lifetime inspections too.

In PA they stopped checking for tint during the state inspections.
The inspection places were complaining that they didn’t have the equipment/training to know what was legal or not.
It’s been that way for about 5-6 years now.

exactly...

thats why i am just trying to find a private inspection station that will pass me with the tints, but only if the inspection will last a reasonable number of years and be reasonable in price..

i dont want to pull the tint off and have it put back on... or just pull it off in general..

It should be 2 years for us,
Trust me, you will not find anyone that will do it less than $100+ bucks, I recomend just pell off your tints, it's so easy to do, and get re-inspected for free, 2 years, and getting the tints just for the front wont be more than 50-70 bucks depending on where you go. They do it quick too, just my and the only thing that worked for me after 2 and a half months of searching for an inspection, NJ is no joke when it comes to that...

yeah i tried to get you someone to help you out, and they either were not doing it anymore cause they were under "watch", or were out of the business of inspecting cars. makes me wonder how i will get my cars to pass, at least i have till 08/06. NJ sucks!!

I'm sorry but tint is not easy to get off. When you do get it off you have to get all the crappy looking adhesive film off the window too. It's just time consuming. Maybe I just had bad luck with it. dunno

I got my tint done in MD and paid for a lifetime warranty on my two side windows so that they'd take it off for inspection and put it on again afterwards. If you get new tint I'd look to see if this is an option.

It is not worth it, to remove it yourself, go for reinspection, pay to get the tint back on, and then fail two years later, to do the same shit again.. just remove it and keep it that way...

Any other places in Jersey that can take care of this. I have to get mine inspected next month.

look like we are in the same boat...
I guess im gonna just have to go to a couple places and try them. Im not paying a ridiculous amount of money for it because its not worth it. I think my cousin just completely bought his sticker froma place because his car wouldnt even pass emissions. I should def call him and see where he got it.
