Lightbulb Inquery...........

Question for my fellows on the boards: Has anyone purchased one of those oil changed canisters that siphons the oil out from the top of the motor, and displaces it in a large canister? I forget what they are called, but Im looking into buying one to save myself from paying 80.00 for a synthetic oil change! Let me know of your experiences!

Thanks,

Topher

For another $20 you can buy yourself a jack, two jack stands and 5 quarts of oil and a new filter and do it yourself. The jack/jack stands would pay for themselves within the time of a single oil change. That's pretty ridiculous. Never used one of those oil siphons myself, but I'm sure it would pay for itself also, especially for $80 for ~15mins of work and 4.6 quarts of oil. I should open up a quickie-oil shop and become rich!

well i change my own oil without a jack and jack stands. i just crawl up under the car and do it. i see no need to jack the car up. unless you are lowered. this being said if you are not lowered then you whould be able to get up under there. im 6'3" and weigh about 195 lbs and my dad has done it once and he is 6'2" and around 240 lbs

Funny, I just bought one like two days ago to replace my brake and power steering fluids. The Oil Boy works well from what I heard. I bought one called "Topsider Big Boy". The best place to find these things are boat stores, not auto parts stores. I couldnt find one anywhere then I went to West Marine (a boat store) and had 3 different kinds, two of which were powered. The Big Boy worked great. Set it up, pumped the fluids right out into can, fill, complete. Jiffy Lube wants $160 to do both, I paid $10 for the fluids and $40 originally for the Big Boy. Do the math.
