Injen CAI @ Snooks

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but Tim has the injen cai that most have looked for. http://www.autocarparts.com/Acura_CL/Acura_CL_TypeS.htm

Its at the bottom, going for 235 polished and 20 extra for colors. Built for the type-s btw..

I got an e-mail from PTuning.com, they have the Injen CAI available for the CL for $199.

Interesting thing I learned... Injen makes a different CAI for both the CL-P and the CL-S. So if you buy it make sure your getting the right one.

That is a much better price. Thanks soopa for the correction..

Yeah I heard that the mounting spots and the actual build of the pipe is different for the CL-S and the CL-P. The CL-P actually matches the Accord 98-00 V6 and the TL's. Don't know why acura made everything different!

It would be really useful to have a sh*tlist for companies like this. That way we could check to see if a vendor was on there, and why, before ordering. If someone disliked being on the sh*tlist and wanted to make good, the original poster could either add a resolution to the thread or delete it.

The Xephyr is going for $185, total with shipping is $200 even. Not bad if you ask me. I would wait until some reviews (like mine) are done on Xephyr, might be a better deal. And his are also custom made for either the CL-S, CL-P/TL.

Just my thoughts...

Snook used to match all prices... Im sure he still does. But hes just a reseller, not a vendor. So if he matchs $199, thats prolly what he pays for it.

Two questions/comments:

1) Did anyone notice the apparent larger diameter of the Injen CAI vs. the Xephyr CAI? I know pictures can be misleading, but I thought the Injen CAI looked like a larger diameter. I am assuming that this means more air mass flow and improved performance, but someone with more knowledge please elaborate.

2) Does the Injen price include the hydro lock filter? Any filter? If not, how much additional and is there room to mount it?

I wish we could get some comparison trials going here, I wanna order one of these!

I am glad you noticed that wireless. That is what I was concerned about regarding the Xeyphr CAI, because I know that AEM is using a larger diameter pipe for the TypeS than that for the CL-P in order to improve HP gains. If Injen has done the same thing as AEM, that may be a very viable option.

Just a few notes, comments, and a shamless plug:

Injen: Price $199.00

1) $199.00 - Does not include the AEM bypass valve. Costs for the valve vary from $35.00 - $50.00 more.

2) May require cutting the induction tube depending on if it is a one or two peice design, additionally the location of the separation in a two piece assembly.

3) Xephyr Performance CAI utilize a 3" diameter 6061-T6 Polished Aluminum Induction Tube. Verify the specifications of the Injen.

4) Xephyr Performance CAI utilizes a 9" Conical High-Flow K&N filter element. Verify the filter type used for Injen.

AEM: Price ??? $200-$300?

1) No AEM intakes come with the bypass filter included in the price quoted.

2) Currently requires cutting of the induction tube.

3) Uses Genuine K&N filter element. Possibly with a velocity stack - However unverified until I cut one open.

4) Welded support bracket.

5) Type S - Still not available.

Xephyr Performance CAI: $200 Shipped to your door

1) 3" 6061-T6 Polished Aluminum Induction Tube.

2) 9" K&N High-Flow filter element.

3) Availability for the Type S.

4) Company Growing pains - shipping and keeping up with inventory.

5) Performance/Acoustics - Only positive comments.

6) Shipping/Availability - Improving daily - commited to consistent improvement.

The end result:

Injen - Available, $255.00 Best case price with AEM Bypass valve shipped to your door.

AEM - Industry benchmark, $275.00 - $375.00 with AEM bypass valve, shipped to your door.

Xephyr - $200.00 w/AEM Bypass valve shipped to your door. Growing company - Feeling the pinch of growing pains. Commited to the race - Raising more eyebrows every day. Brought the product Acura-Cl.com wanted, perhaps in a bit of haste - Making the commitment to run in the race.

When do you think you can add the welded attachement to the tube?

Nashua:

I will do a few test welds this weekend. Depending on the outcome it may be as soon as Friday of next week. The problem remains that the color difference between the Polished Aluminum and the steel brace.... AEM avoids this by not offering a polished tube and as far as I know Injen gives a clamp similar to what I use along with a bracket that fits between the induction tube and the clamp. IMO I have tried that setup also and it offer no real support above and beyond not using it. But I am working on it.

Xeyphr...make all the shameless plugs you want; you've earned it developing something for our cars. Props.

-I just want to ensure that all facts are correct (rocks unturned) on the subject.

(1) all CAI's make a similar sound as a result of their design. Big plus.

(2) for those of us in dryer parts of the country, a bypass valve is unneccessary, it only drains power. I had an AEM for a year and a half on my Integra with no valve, and no problems.

(3) AEM does use a velocity stack, I had one.

(3) all 3 choices use genuine K&N filters.

(4) When developing your CAI, did you notice how much room was left over after the pipe was in? How much larger of a pipe could be used? Maybe there is more R&D possible?

Just

As far as i know, both intakes should be pretty much the same, but they do have slightly different part numbers:

CL-S - RD1480BLK, RD1480P
TL-S - RD1481BLK, RD1481P

right. I researched it prior to making that post. I know the part numbers are different, thats what threw me off. so thats a yes? it does fit? im only asking cause of the part numbers being different.

thanks
