IMRC Dissasembly
IMRC Dissasembly
I would have posted these in that other thread, but that seems to have turned into a HP vs Torque debate now
Anyway thanks to that thread I discovered my IMRC wasn't working for probably the entire 6 years I've owned the car. I always though the VTEC kick was it at around 5k RPM. So I decided to take the IMRC apart before I ordered a new one to see if it's at all possible to fix.
Here's the pics:
Off the car.. nearly stripped the bolt on the passenger side since I didn't have the right size extension.

Pulling open the metal tabs holding everything together.

Apart.. now to take off the pulley.

That spring is why people say it explodes when you take it apart...

And there's where it goes back together.. keeps tension on the big gear

And finally the culprit... Can't see of any way to make this gear work again... stupid plastic

So now I've got one on order, and zip tied it open in time being... definitely a difference from all the past years.. if only I'd seen that sooner

not exactly true you can shim the gear around to by pass the broken teeth i did this and mine worked for 2+ years with no problem ... when the motor intially fires there's no tension on the cable then it pulls up the slack in the cable and slams on the teeth of the gear ... adjust the "throttle cable tension so that it pulls the big gear around untill the remaining teeth are there to catch
