I'm Driving a 5-Speed

Actually by choice. I wanted to see the difference in driving with starting in 2nd all day long in my 6-Speed. I even launched the car from 2nd and smoked the tires.

But in the end it was easier to get moving at a brisk pace by starting in 2nd. I even suspect that I could achieve better times by starting in 2nd in this form. The car has more than enough grunt to pull hard from 1500 RPM and may break loose at will. So I am at the limits of adhesion. More gearing or power would not provide better numbers when already at the limits of traction. So potentially starting in 2nd may yield better times since there would be one less shift.

Just FYI...

Interesting .. actually, my friends parents 2001 Lincoln LS V8 with the 5AT starts off in second gear every time. The only way to start the car off in first is mash the throttle more than 3\4's of the way down off the line, or put it in sport shift and kick it down to first at a dead stop. It makes for a smoother, less jerky start.

Currently with the cold mornings and the blower making boost; I can't go near 50% throttle without spinning in first and this is from a roll.

I've seen some tests of cars where starting in 2nd yielded better number. At a minimum I suspect I would be able to achieve more consistent numbers in 2nd. But that is pointless as I don't bracket race.
