Icebox vs resonator removal??

Hey all

about a week after I got my CL-S 6-speed, i removed the resonator. i was very happy with the ressults...sound/power increase. i decided to buy the comptech icebox and installed it a few days ago. i feel NO power increase and sound is exactly the same. if you think about it...theres no less restriction in this icebox than the stock airbox without the resonator. is the comptech a waste if u do the airbox removal? i mean 279 dollars ...BLAH

i might try to return it...suggggestions please

I would keep it. The "butt" dyno is not the best way to determine HPs gain. Personally, I like the Icebox more than the other intakes. The bigger issue is that the Icebox is a cold air intake. Although the filter is in the position of the stock intake, the air comes from below. Restrictions is not the most important issue.

yep. the cool air charge is. that's why the Thermoblok spacers are helpful as far as having cooler temps entering the intake manifold then cylinder intake ports.

The icebox is actually putting cold or cool air through so that aspect of it is beneficial. On my 3GTL I removed the intake piping/resonator after the accident since the bumper was off anyways. I basically took out the useless s curve up by the engine bay, so that the air was being sucked in directly from the bumper up the newly J shaped pipe right to the filter. With a K&N filter, I believe it was basically as good as a CAI setup. I never dynoed before or after, but I was getting better track times than most stock 5AT TL's. Yes though, colder air source, less pipe bends and increased airflow capability will improve things no matter what CAI product you use.

I also see no difference. It only gains like 9hp maybe with the Icebox, so if your getting 5 with out the resonator & the K&N, your good enough. Your not going to notice 4 HP.
And it does pull air from the bumper area. When you remove thw resonator it leaves a little rubber tube thing at the bottom of the stock aribox that seals it to the bottom. It effectivly gives a straight shot of air from under the bumper area. As the TB opens it sucks in air, so it will suck in the air from the bumper area.

I doubt that very much. I had the icebox, & it wasn't that much of a difference.

Comptech Icebox for CL-S 6 speed dyno

Removing the resonator and adding a K&N will definitely help. In no way is your Icebox a waste of money though. The intake has a lot of R&D put into it to funnel the air correctly and take colder air, as was mentioned. Also it has a flap on the side that will take in air if you happen to suck up water.
