Icebox and OBX headers?
Anyone installed the Icebox on a car that has OBX headers? I talked with the service people at the Acura dealer that I have been going to and he said that there is a chance that the resonance may go away or it may get worse with the Icebox since the engine is breathing easier. Any insight into this? My fingers are crossed that it goes away but with my luck it won't. If nothing else, I will let you guys know what happens.
Ah, but you have Comptech headers so you wouldn't have the wonderful ricey resonance issue anyway! But at the very least it will be another review of the icebox. I don't plan on doing the dyno though so it may just end up being a "it feels faster/slower" post. Install is this Saturday assuming that UPS drops off theIcebox when they are supposed to!
resonance
my guess is that the resonance vibration with my OBX headers is gone (i haven't noticed it since the IceBox install anyway), but it was pretty subtle to begin with imo. i'll check on my drive home from work today and post as soon as i get back online tonight.

Once the car is nice and warmed up I find that the resonance is pretty minor. It is the first 10 miles in the morning that drive me a little mad considering a lot is in rush-hour traffic and 2500rpm seems to be where the car wants to be a fair amount of the time. Just means more sport shift playing to keep it above or below that point.
Did you have the stock air filter before the Icebox or some other filter? If there is a correlation between air flow coming into the engine and resonance in the headers coming out of the engine that would be nice to know. Say, if you had a drop in K&N filter so the air was a little less restricted and your resonance was less than mine and we both lost most of the resonance after the Icebox install then we might be on to something!

What does the intake have to do with the headers making noise at 2500 rpm? With or without the intake the headers will still resonate at 2500 rpm you might get there quicker with an intake but make no mistake about they will still resonate. Did you thank Nashua for given you such a headache now you will have to buy an intake to compensate for the noise, should of bought Comptechs but I quess you know that by now.
I love the gains that the headers give. The ONLY problem I have is that resonance. People get in my car and they are saying "wow, so nice, so comfortable, so sporty" and then the engine goes BBBZZZZZZZZZZZ. And they ask "what was that?". Most people don't know headers from a hole in the wall and the majority of car owners don't mod their cars. So, they look at me a bit funny when I explain away the noise. It is a common "argument" when I explain the increased hp...the normal response is "well, why do you need more?" which leads to "to be faster" to which they reply "but why do you need to go faster?", etc, etc. But I digress...
I don't think that it is impossible that the noise can go away. Couldn't it be possible that part of the header resonance is related to the vibrations of the engine as well? If that is the case, and the intake changes the engine vibrations then maybe (okay, maybe it is a reach) the headers will respond slightly differently?
hey, it was the Acura dealership that started me thinking!Blame them!

This may be somewhat related:
I had a Weapon-R short ram intake with my OBX headers. The resonance sound was definitely pretty loud.
Well, I am trading in my CL, so I removed the Intake and put the stock airbox back on. The resonance sound from the OBX is MUCH quieter - I am almost barely able to hear it compared to before.
I am not sure if you have any intake, but if you have an AEM intake, it probably will get quieter. If you are going from a stock air box to the Icebox, my guess is that it won't get any louder as the resonance occurs at ~2800 rpm and the icebox is quiet there.

Lou: The resonance sound is not THAT loud. It's only noticable at a certain RPM and it's far from annoying. It's definitely worth a ~$800 savings IMO. And with the stock air box, I can barely hear any resonance. It almost completely went away
OK, I checked for it after work today, and I have ZERO resonance with my IceBox. I went up and down from 2k to 3k when it was still kinda cold, and had no discernable difference in how it revved up. I checked again when I got off the highway over and over again, and heard nothing. I had a K&N drop-in before last weekend's install, and didn't notice much at all back then. It certainly never bothered me, though I could hear it when I made a conscious effort to do so.
Hope this helps someone.

Well the install is over. I had it done at the dealership as planned ($85 for the install) and it took them 2.5 hours. They didn't remove the bumper, just the wheel well liner even though the instructions call for removing the bumper. The resonance sound from the Headers is definitely still there. I can't really say if it is better but I can say that it doesn't sound worse than before. Overall, the car seems a little quicker off the line but nothing amazing. I don't have a dyno to show gains or anything like that. Overall I give it a thumbs up. A subtle improvement over just the headers alone but any improvement is welcome!
