What do you guys think of me getting my wheels done like dfreder370's.....black chrome. I'm just thinking that if I let Den Busters take care of fixing my wheels....they are gonna take the cheap way out.....then they'll probably start chipping after a month....I'm sick of changing my wheels.
Nicky: Dave here. Why don't we do the sensible thing here? We live maybe three miles apart. I pm'ed you with the technical details about my bulletproof wheel finish (I am a powder coater and corrosion tester, so I know). Why don't we get together, take off ten lugnuts and see if you like the look?
All it takes is some vision to imagine it on your wheels.
For the rest of you who are in the dark: www.goodrichtechnology.com Click on the permastar tag. Nicky is talking about the black pearl finish. $500 beats the hell out of $1395 in MHO.

I can't afford a new car...I'm saving for a townhouse/condo, so $500 to get the wheels chromed or $1400 for new wheels won't dent the wallet too much. I figure if do the wheels....it will re-spark my interest in the car......get it. I'm actuallly being cost effective
Some big new here folks: Dave the powder guy here. First, I am please as punch with my rims. Your standard, as purchased Acura rims ARE POWDER COATED, and powder coated rims have been around since about 1990. The acrylic, powder coated rims are about two mils thick (.002"), but my goodrich technology powder coated rims are about 8 mils thick, as a minimum. This encases the ENTIRE rim, on the face, with 8 mils of coating, and about 2 mils everywhere else, and folks, plastic does not rust!
Now, the good news. I spoke to Gary today (so did nick), but I spoke to him for business purposes. I'm trying to get Gary to move this technology to high temperature plastics. Around 400 f. The current process requires 490f, and that melts most plastics.
Gary is swamped with the wheel and motorcycle business. Motorcycles are chrome city. Gary is farming out the wheel business from his joint in SF to a guy in LA. I paid $100 per wheel, a preferred rate, because I gave him a good post (and thank you smitty for posting pics).
When the new guy gets set up (don't know how long), he liscensed Garys process, Gary informes me that the new cost will be $50 per wheel! If you call Gary, bend over backwards to say Dave referred you, and mention Acura CL-com. You should get a cost of about $500 for four wheels. If you want to wait for the $200/set, fine by me, but remember, this is a rather new technology. The new guy might be "practicing" for a while. I'd go with Gary for now, if you can afford the premium.
I am an experienced powder coater, and although I cannot duplicate this technology (due to a lack of a vacuum deposition chamber, where the chrome "look" is applied), tomorrow, when I go into work, I am going to advise my coporate directors to BUY this company. This guy is sitting on a gold mine.
Expect few posts from me about this subject after June 22. I have to go supervise a powder coating startup, equally as fascinating, but a totally different technology in Ohio, and it will last until mid October. The project value is worth about $250,000,000 per year to the company, but I will check in with the board every weekend after my 800 mile commute. At least, I will do it in a comfortable, powerful (and gas guzzeling) 03CLS6.
