I think I fixed my V-AFC problem
I think I fixed my V-AFC problem
I set my VTEC to kick in at 4900, and so far it hasnt done anything. I'm going to keep this setting till Wed, when I take it back to the installer. Has anyone else had a problem w/ V-AFC, or am I the only one?

Before it was set at 5400, which is what it is stock.

Stock on a TL is 4300. The V-AFC default setting when you install it is 5400. A fellow TL brother, Tanner (Rest In Peace
), dyno'ed his TL all day to get the best settings. I don't know what kind if fuel settings he was using (and as such have not changed mine) but he found that setting the VTEC engagement to 3800 provided the most gains. Apparently with the stock setting there is a 25hp loss at the VTEC engagement that is nullified by setting it at 3800.
To see if it is even working, set it to 3000.
Where did you install yours? Here's mine:

I really don't know what happend to Tanner.
He was selling his engine mods (headers, NOS, etc) to buy a house. Then he was sellings his engine mods AND cosmetic mods (19" C5s, etc) to buy a house. He promised he'd send me all the fuel settings for the V-AFC before he sold it. But he vanished.
He doesn't reply to emails. No one knows... someone mentioned something about him getting a 5 series but it would be really unlike him to be a coward about it. He was one of the regulars that posted many times every day. Then poof. =/

Can you still close the sun glass holder with the V-AFC in it or does it have to stay open all the time??

NOLACLS, yep! It still closes and when you open it, it glides open just like the stock sunglass holder did. It was a pain in the ass getting that to work! But worth it.
ruvs, you have to hook it up to your ECU. Installation involves cutting a couple wires to tap into it.
