I painted my calipers! (pics)

They look ok, took way too long, lot of hard work taking off those tires. Hey, no more scratched rims!

Thanks, I painted them silver. Got the kit from here: http://www.carstyling.com/wheel.html

You won't have any problems using the paint correctly, messing up the brakes, etc. The hardest part is jacking up the car and taking off the tires. You have to use the paint mixture rather quickly (in about an hour or two), otherwise it will gum up, won't flow, and will become unusable. It is paint in a can, not a spray. I had enough for two coats on each wheel.

Yes, it is a bit costly and there are other alternatives, but this one is foolproof. Depending on how it looks later this year, I'm going to go with another application (my third coat) late this Fall.

I bought VHT high temp brake caliper spray paint to paint my calipers. I painted them black and they came out very nice, it was tiresome but well worth it.

I just repainted my calipers the correct way!
HAHA

I painted it first myself with just like 2 coats of engine emanuel and it started coming off and the results didn't look good at all!
I repainted it using a better way in which u spray the paint, then a layer of clear coat which will make the glossy effect! And now i am please with the results!

Jacking up the car with the stock acura jack was a pain in the ass!
If you know someone with a VW or an AUDI, borrow the jack from them ! You wont believe how fast u can jack your car up!
HAHA
(that explains how often they need tire changes eh?)

Ken,

Looks good.

How did you use the jack(s)? How many did you have and in what order did you go with the calipers?

Thanks

Screw the kit for $40+!!!! Go to your local hardware store and pick up some engine paint. Many more colors than the 5 that website gives you. Use the high temp. engine paint and you'll be fine! Done it before and will do it again!

I thought about silver too, but it does look stock. I think black will work better for me.

Looks good Ken!

I used the VHT Brake & Caliper paint on mine, in Gloss Black. You probably remember from the PAA meet.

I did not want to use silver because it looks too much like stock (although it protects as well as any color). I gave red a lot of consideration but was basically talked out of it by more than one person -- all said it would look out of place (basically = TOO ricey). So, I ended up with the gloss black and I am quite happy about the look!!

Anyone ever done blue on a silver car? I think that would look sweet!

Bought 4 unscratched, used rims and sold all of my scratched ones for cheap; much cheaper than getting them fixed. I didn't want to go with the "getting them fixed" route because it the outcome was not guaranteed and it just took too long (2 days) for them to work it. Because I did everything in bulk, buying 4 rims and tires, sold old rims, sold some tires, keep 1 set as spare, I don't know the exact cost but I'm pretty sure I paid less than $55 per rim.

Actually that's what I wanted. I thought any other colour would be too ricey. I had also considered black but I wasn't sure. If I see them black in person, I might switch. I figured it would easy to paint black over silver than silver over black. In any case, the previous condition of my calipers made any colour that much nicer. They really needed it badly.

I returned all jacks to the store unused. There is no way to put the jack stands in place as long as the scissor jack is in place. So you can't raise the car with the scissor jack, put the jack stand in place, and lower the car from the same jack point. They would not physically co-locate. You must use a floor jack and raise the entire end instead.

So I said screw it, I will do them one wheel at a time, front two first, then rear. It was a painful 3-4 hours....

I know, I know but it was my first time and I wanted to do it right. Didn't want to risk putting the wrong paint on there and ruining things or doing all that hard work only to have it peel in a month. Also wanted paint, not spray. Too lazy to shop in hardware store for the right stuff. If you have a UPC or part #, I'll go get some black for this Fall.

P.S. $40 is change; nothing. In this case, price is not even a factor.
