I need new rear pads...

So I went to the dealer the past week to get my oil changed, and while I was at it, I had them check my brakes for me. They mentioned that the rotors were fine, and that I had 70% left on the pads in the front, and 10% in the rear, and that the rears should be changed out immediately. They said they'd charge me like $160 or $180, and I basically told them to fuck off and that I'll get it done myself. Anyhow, since my rears are the only things that need to be replaced, should I just buy the OEM pads and get those installed? Any other suggestions? Also, where's the cheapest place to get these things put on at? And where could I buy the OEM pads? Thanks!

I just had a set of Wagner Thermal Quiet pads put on all around. They ain't the cheepest, but they work well. I had the same on my Maxima and they never squeeled or gave off brake dust.
I've had them on my CL for a week and they work great.

Use OEM Pads

I tried other non-oem pads, and they squeaked awfully. I ended up tossing the aftermarket pads and buying Honda pads. Also, resurface your rotors. I tried skipping the resurface thing and that screwed up my rear pads.

thanks for your help guys...

however, I really wasn't given a direct answer. Should I just go w/ OEM replacement pads for the rears? Or should I get performance pads for the rears, like the EBC greenstuff pads? And where can I get these put on at?

EDIT: btw, I'm confused at tirerack.com...they have

Satisfied Pro Perform OEM Pads (Material: OEM Compound)

Rear fitment
Note: Rear brake pads.

Price: $21.00 (axle set)
Estimated Availability: Low Stock

Is this per pad? Or is that for both rear pads? I don't get what axle set means.

Dem1K, if I were you, since you have stock pads in front, just get oem pads for now..
I got a rear set of stock pads for 41$ on ebay, brand new. Then, just install them yourself, use a DIY from this forum, and save 100$ labour.

If you were telling me you were changing all 4, then I'd go with 10$ more a pad and get performance pads. Also, getting performance pads is more worth it when installing them in the front, since that's where most of the braking is done anyways....

Hope this helps bud.

thanks berny...

Ok so I still need help here. Where do I get the stock pads from? I see ahmotor.com has this...

Acura CL (All)(Rear) 01-03 $51.85/set for brake pads & shoes? the fuck are shoes?

and acuraautomotive has:

30967 008 1 PAD SET, RR. 58.30 <---list price 50.14 <---their price

and, as previously mentioned, tirerack.com has:

Satisfied Pro Perform OEM Pads (Material: OEM Compound) for
Price: $21.00 (axle set)

woudl that mean I'd have to select quantity as 2 for both rear pads? I'm assuming that is so? Anyways, should I just go to like brake masters and have them install and re-surface the rotors? Any other suggestions?

shoes are for the parking brake (aka e-brake).

as for the tirerack, one axle set means it's for both left and right sides. select quantity as 1.

I'd have the whole braking system checked out if I was you. The CL-S is a heavy FWD and there is no way the rears should wear out before the fronts. Especially by that much. The front brakes on these cars do about 60-70% of the work. Something is wrong here.

i know he got the car used, so its possible (and very probable) that the fronts have been changed before and the rears have not. very simple.

well in my first post I mentioned that I had the dealer check out my brakes, and that I had 70% left in the front and 10% left in the rears. why, but that's how it is. And yeah, I bought the car used

That would "splain" it. I'd still check just to be sure.

The pads from Tire Rack are similar in quality and material to your OEM pads, but are not the same. They are an alternative to the OEM pads. If you want OEM then get OEM. If you want aftermarket pads get the ones from Tire Rack, but either way make sure you only order 1 because they come as a set for both the right and left.
