I need aftermarket clutch advice

I own a 2003 Acura Cl type 6 speed and my clutch is starting to slip. I went ahead and purchased an Aasco lighter flywheel and need advice on which direction to go on the clutch. I am leaning towards a Spec 2 Plus clutch unless someone with first hand experience has a better suggestion. I have read on a thread on acurazine that some say this clutch is a "glorified stock clutch". I currently am running just bolt ons. Any input would really help. Thanks.

i'm currently in the market looking for a clutch kit myself. i was told to stay away from the spec clutches. we don't have many options out there. seems like clutchmaster is a proven way to go if you are boosted. i believe xlr8 is coming out with his own kit that is suppose to be better. if you are just running bolt-on, why not just replace it with the oem clutch?

I would either stay with oem clutch with aluminum flywheel, or clutchmaster stage 3 kit depending on what you want to spend.

i agree with brian. Stay away from spec because from most on here, they break easily or dont last very long.
oem with p2r disk seems to be a popular setup as well...that aasco flywheel should liven up your car once all is done...gl

So you guys are implying a stage 2 plus from spec would be worst than running a factory clutch? Does any one have any good links for a clutchmasters clutch? Also is stage 3 is what I should get?

Exedy is good, Ive run it on two of my previous cars. But its not a performance clutch, its just an OEM replacement.

Do not waste your money of the SPEC clutches. They use an OEM pressure plate thats been repainted and claim its stronger then factory, and they dont last. Every person that I know that has run a SPEC clutch ended up going back to OEM in a very short period.

The CM setup is great, but its pricey.

I think very good choice is to get oem clutch i would say if you dont push crazy power it will last the longest. I dont trust aftermarket options.this is too much work for something to go wrong i say go oem if u can. You can resurface old flywheel and reuse it. Also u can get p2r clutch disc and that would be my only option other than oem. That my personal prefferance

This is a great thread.. thanks AC. I'm likely going to be going the same route. I'll have official word back from the shop tomorrow but he said he thought the tech said the clutch and flywheel looked pretty bad. I think I'll go OEM on the clutch and stuff and then also consider the aasco flywheel if required. Is it the general consensus that the aasco is the best flywheel for that kind of money?

CT used to make a kit but it resulted in a FUBAR'd engine. They dont do it anymore.

Ah ok cool thx, I read about that back in some real old posts didn't realized the just stopped making them rather than fix the failed design! One side of me hopes mine can be resurfaced, but I realize not everyone can do it correctly and I new would be better!

I haven't researched that enough. That's one of today's projects if I can find time... I think I've seen them for around $550? I will have to check out heel-toes site.

Does anyone know if the clutch masters stage three kit is just a oem pressure plate spray painted like spec or is it their own design? I don't want to run a unsprung disk or puck design since I drive the car often.

No the CM Stage 3 kits run a custom Pressure Plate built by CM. It's a 2200 lb PP.

We have these kits on sale on our website too.

it def. required some getting use to, but nothing that can not be used for a daily driver. the only main difference is the point of engagement. other than that it feels very similar to stock. in terms of feel.
