I got the headers in!

I finally got the headers in yesterday! The gains were not immediate but after some driving last night and this morning, I gave it a nice punch to the floor and wow, what a difference. I should have gotten this done a long time ago. Despite what everyone has said about fitment with anything other than Comptech, I bought the cheap ebay SSAutochrome/XS Power headers. They are absolutely perfect. Everything lined up exactly how they were supposed to and there is no resonsnace. Now time will tell how they hold up as far as the welds and such goes. They look good but I know looks can be deceiving. As far as I'm concerned, it was $150 well spent.

Just thought I'd share!

The fitment issue is usually hit or miss with the non-Comptech ones. There is also the issue of the welds holding.

Good luck with them. Enjoy.

why not just buy dcsports if you wanted a cheaper price?

any case, headers are fun; glad to hear you're happy w/ the new mod .

Well, I've had these headers since before last Christmas. If I would have known about the DC's at the time, I would have bought those more than likely. The DC's are still more expensive than these but all in all, it was well worth the $150 even if they only last a year.

Thanks for the comments, guys!

That's the other thing I am happy about with these. I can take them and put them on the 6MT if I get one.

Exactly. I really question the quality from a company that doesn't realize that they could make one header for both trannies. It would have just taken minimal research on their part

My meagans are being installed as we speak. I cant wait till I pick it up I might get a ticket on the way home. Lol But the resonace we will see if its really that bad. If so the shop that is installing them (Lou's Custom Exhaust is the best around when it comes to pipe fabrication so ill have them remove the front flex and see what that does.

That resonace might be the way the gaskets are made. XS is the only one that has the same compression gaskets exactly like CT & stock. All others use a regular gasket.

My XS's came with what seemed to be regular gasket. It was completley different than the stock one. I put it on and it doesn't sound like it's leaking so we'll see. I was a little leary about it at first but I figured, what the hell.

For clarification...what gaskets are used with the Comptech's? I've heard stock and none before.

My stock ones were like 2 thin pieces of tin mashed together but the XS gasket was like a normal gasket. Never seen a comptech one.

comptech tells you to just use OEM gasket and no gasket b/w downpipe and manifolds.

Hold up.....
2 sets of gaskets here....

1 set are the ones that go to the engine on each side where the header mounts to. Those you can use stock ones. Or CT, or XS includes them.

2nd set are the ones that go to the downpipe on the front & rear sides & the cat flange. Those in stock form & CT are a metal ring the goes inside the pipe & compresses into a groove when tightened.

XS & CT seem to use this same method. The others use a standard flat paper gasket between the flanges.

Now...unless XS changed thier design since I got mine........ Mine came with 3 round metal compression gaskets. They fit exactly like CT into a groove in the pipe.
Look at CT's install...
http://www.comptechusa.com/store/med...ons/ins028.pdf
3 2 1/4" compression gaskets.

And here's the ones I got....notice the same 3 gaskets

I'm not sure if these are the same as the XSpower ebay guy that is selling. They are the same company so I would think they are. But the auction pics are different. So is price.

Exactly what I bought. If you look in one of the pics, you can barely make out teh XS Power label that is welded on them kind of opposite of the hanger.

Oh yeah, and the shipping box said SSAutochrome on the sides and the box inside containing the headers had XS Power and Accord 3.0 all over it.

Car kinda sounds like a G35 now if there was no resonace. And I did get a speeding ticket today the first one in 3 years....... Damn Headers I had to see what power they made though.

Looking at this ebay auction, it says 8-15 hp gain. Aren't the comptech headers supposed to be like 30 more hp to the wheeels? Are these a different design or is it 8-15 hp on the v6 accord and still a better gain on the CL? Please let me know asap as I may bid on these...

All the headers seem to have the same gains for the CL as the Comptechs. I saw that too on the auction I bought from. Trust me, it's more than 8-15hp.

Yeah, everything else is stock. IMHO, the only reason to do anything else is sound or looks.

Yeah I'm sure the power is close to CT if not equal. There's not a whole lot to them. All of them should make around the same power as CT.

so you guys think that XS's put out the same horsepower regardless of what the ebay site says?

Man this is tempting, im 100% getting headers for my 6 speed and was planning on getting Comptechs because of the quality but its so much damn $$.

$150 compared to over $1,000

what to do, what to do ....

Well I had CT's on my old 6mt. Most of the same mods on this one, & they feel the same in the power dept. Someone would have to dyno them to be sure.

Damn that sucks.

You have a front flex pipe? Do you have the Meagans(sp?)? It seems like those of us with the Comptechs & the XSP's have had less problems than the rest.

Thanks, Ryan. The biggest issue for me was getting the bolts off the cat and the botls off of the stock manifold/a-pipe connection. I striped two of them trying to get them off so I had to have a shop get them off for me. No biggie. Aside from the tight working environment on the back side of the motor, it was a breeze after those bolts were off.
